Story
Terence McKenna hypothesizes that as the North African jungles receded, giving way to savannas and grasslands near the end of the most recent ice age, a branch of our arboreal primate ancestors left the forest canopy and began living in the open areas beyond. There they experimented with new varieties of foods as they adapted, physically and mentally, to the environment. Among the new foods found in this environment were psilocybin-containing mushrooms.

The signs are everywhere, from the influence of today's preeminent psychedelic thinker Daniel Pinchbeck, to the renewed interest in the legacy of Terence McKenna, and to the upsurge of collective cultural phenomena like the spectacle of Burning Man.

Publisher's Summary
"It was during my eighth or ninth plant medicine journey that I was finally getting a real sense of freedom. I was feeling so elated that I told the moon I had a special request. I explained that this life had been so full of pain for me that I didn't think I could do it all again. So I asked her if in my next life she could make sure that I found the plant medicine as soon as possible. Her reply floored me. She typed, 'Gerry, that's a request about next time, but it's the same one you used last time.'"
Plant medicine? The moon typing? It probably seems incomprehensible. Gerard Armond Powell was a rags-to-riches success story - a member of the one percent - but also an extremely unhappy person with multiple addictions. On a fast track to destroying every relationship that ever mattered to him and considering suicide, he was looking for a miracle, a way out. He found it in the form of plant medicine and a shaman who introduced him to the truth of his life, and laid the groundwork for a psycho-spiritual journey that would lead him to reconnect with his soul, heal his addictions, and, finally, achieve a lasting sense of peace and happiness. This experience changed Powell, and convinced him to share the universal truths he learned with as many people as he could, which he does at the acclaimed Rythmia Life Advancement Center in Costa Rica, and now with listeners in Sh*t the Moon Said.
This mesmerizing story gives listeners a blueprint to chart their own course to happiness. The first step is to learn who they really are and the possibilities of what they can still become. Second, they have to achieve a reconnection with their souls. And third, they must heal their hearts. Sh*t the Moon Said provides us with an irreverent way of highlighting our shared unconscious wisdom and its life-changing potential. Powell's candid tale and unlikely journey will help inspire listeners to know themselves better.

I was looking for a book on someone’s ayahuasca experience, what I got here was a really arrogant person acting like he’s some sort if rock n’ roll star. He uses this book not only for self-promotion but to promote his probably unnecessarily expensive retreat center in Costa Rica. What a douche.

Should have been titled “The moon said this book is sh*t” as this book really is terrible.
Very little content, just a brief account of an Aya ceremony in Costa Rica, followed by self-promotion of the author’s retreat in Costa Rica. Narration was not good either.
Would not recommend.

One of the best books I’ve listened to in a while
One of the last chapters about the Rhythmia retreat seemed a bit like a plug but in the broader context it seems like it belongs into the book.
The content of this book goes deep. I listened to it while in a contemplative mood, and in a calm relax setting while out in nature. The straight forward and no BS language brought home some thoughts, memories and emotions that I hadn’t experienced on this level, or completely forgotten about.
This is a book that I will for sure be listening to several more times. The breathing exercise in part 2 feels more powerful than other visualisation exercises I have done in the past and is certainly one I will keep practicing.
Thank you for sharing the content of this book with the world.
