This is the story of LSD told by a concerned yet hopeful father, organic chemist Albert Hofmann, PhD. He traces LSD's path from a promising psychiatric research medicine to a recreational drug sparking hysteria and prohibition.

In LSD: My Problem Child, we follow Dr. Hofmann's trek across Mexico to discover sacred plants related to LSD, and listen in as he corresponds with other notable figures about his remarkable discovery. Underlying it all is Dr. Hofmann's powerful conclusion that mystical experiences may be our planet's best hope for survival. Whether induced by LSD, meditation, or arising spontaneously, such experiences help us to comprehend "the wonder, the mystery of the divine, in the microcosm of the atom, in the macrocosm of the spiral nebula, in the seeds of plants, in the body and soul of people".

More than 60 years after the birth of Albert Hofmann's problem child, his vision of its true potential is more relevant, and more needed, than ever.

I have been wanting to listen/read this book for a while. It was exactly what I thought it would be and such an interesting story. As a psychonaut I always wanted to know how this Ineffable molecule came along.

Such an amazing chemist.

Amazing information within this audiobook.
I do not regret for a second purchasing it
And neither will you. I sincerely doubt. If this is a topic that interests you. Or if Albert Hoffman alone (r.i.p. beautiful man) is an area of interest I do believe you will enjoy this book.
Thank you for this book. To all who were involved in it's making/ publishing etc. 🙏❤️

Just..... wow

the narrators voice was monotone and made it difficult to differentiate between authors. it would be better with different narrators for each author.

very descriptive and informative

I’m speechless. Simply an amazing journey from the beginning to the end. At this day and time I can’t imagine what the CIA is doing with this drug….But I’m looking forward to seeing how it’s being used today.

Speechless!

Firstly this is an amazing book, i highly suggest you give this a read/listen to. Very informative and exciting.
However the reader, Steven J Cowen, does this book an absolute diservice to the topic, author and Audible as a company. Dry, monotone, unenthusiastic, and seemingly uninterested in the material the reader is reading. Cowen makes this book unenjoyable with his constant run on sentences. He pronounces the same non-english words differently throughout. He can not switch accents, for example there is a scene in the book where the author, Hoffman, is in Mexico with other native German speakers among native Spanish speaking people and the entire conversation is read with a Spanish accent. Again towards the end of the book the author is referring to ancient Greek material and the reader reads the Greek with a German accent and an incorrect pronunciation. I also suspect that the reader read the 3rd edition of this book and added the 4th edition edits at a different time. The book has areas where the reader clearly is reading at a different timeframe and switches tones and speed for a parargraph or two and reverts back to the original talk speed and tone.

I would implore Audible to hire a better reader and to reread this book. Steven J Cowen should be redirected towards bedtime stories where people want to be lulled to sleep.

Riveting story, watered down by an unenthusiastic reader.
