Alan Watts is a treat!

I presume this is a reel to reel tape transposed onto electronic media (in my case my eye phone) by Watt's son Mark. Unlike the other reviews I found the "noise" charming. For example I believe he was perhaps wearing conch shells because he has one to show the audience and it sounds to me as they are consistently rubbing against each other while he is speaking. I also heard someone use a faucet perhaps to get a drink of water. This particular piece seems connected to Thusness recording because he begins by mentioning at birth we arrive from the ground of being and become apertures. I know he made formal vinyl records with high production values. These tapes are s gift because they represent "Alan Watts Naked", that is that he is completely engaged with a live audience without the additional awareness that what he is saying will be a commercial product. Regardless of what you may know about Eastern belief patterns, Watts has a powerful metaphorical mind to boil down complex ideas into accessible language. While purists may cringe at some of the examples he used as they did for Joseph Campbell, he is still correct in spirit even if he glosses over important detailed nuances. That is, however, Alan Watts way of looking at the world and to complain about the quality of the presentation both technically and substantially means one has missed the charm of a stand-up spiritual master.

CUTS OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LECTURE!!!

CUTS OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LECTURE!!! Starts off interesting, but the tape stops inexplicably in the middle. Sad.

OK.

Any additional comments?

It's ok. I wouldn't spend money on it if I had known what it was. No new insights.

Stop, look and think . . . a different perspective

I'm not sure what this lecture or speech is from, there was no reference information. There was background noise that was distracting - like water running out of a tap at times, moving noises, maybe some clattering type of noise like plates.

There are longer Youtube videos of Alan Watts with better sound quality with better context. This seems to be an extract of a longer talk.

However, this extract is meaningful. There are some interesting reflections and ideas shared in this, and it did add to or change my understanding and perceptions a bit.

So, the ideas shared are valuable. The way they are communicated is poor, but I am glad that this talk (or extract) was preserved.

Good stuff

Alan Watts is (even though he spends all of his time in another dimension now that his body is dead ) still A W E S O M E, buy all his book and audio books and maybe you can find said dimension and tell him I said so.

classic Alan Watts (love or lost)

glad he narrates his own work. as for comprehending it all: i do get lost in some of the connections. however, in usually attribute it ro me, not the author.
