"Set massive goals and take massive actions"

There are only two main points in this book: set massive goals (10 times what you think you can achieve) and take massive actions (10 times more than what you would have normally done). So if your goal is save $1,000, then restate that as "I saved $10,000" (as if you've already achieved it). If you think you can get two new customers each week, put in 10 times the effort to aim for 20 new customers each week. Each of the chapters are pounding on behavior changes, like don't behave like a victim. Traffic didn't make you late. That's an excuse. Do more than the average level of work. Commit to and deliver exceptional work. Don't retreat when economic conditions take a down turn. Get out there, meet with the customers, increase your advertising while your competitors are cutting back, and expand your market as they retract. This book reads like a life coach yelling at you.

"Not what I expected, and very happy it's not."

I'm only 1/2 way through but wanted to write a quick note to shed some light on the negative reviews.

This book is not necessarily a how to. At least not so far. What this book is, is a reminder that if you think you are working hard enough, you're not. If you believe you're thinking big enough, you're not. If you feel you have have reached your full potential, you haven't.

I am already finding the 10x mindset chipping away at my "normal" life and showing improvements.

I do recommend listening to this at 2x speed (if you can handle it). As some people have complained, there isn't a lot of new stuff here. But at 2x it's like having a personal instructor trying to motivate you.

This book isn't going tell you there is an easy way out. It IS going to tell you that it's your duty to be successful and to get your butt in gear. Being successful takes effort.

I'm really glad I didn't listen to the naysayers. Sometimes we don't need new strategies, we only need a jolt to wake up and take action.

    Hope this helps someone.

    "Very disappointing"

I have to admit that I only made it two hours into this book before dropping it. This is very rare for me, as I tend to finish books I start.

I picked this one up because of the high reviews, but now I understand why the bad reviews are so highly rated. In the two hours I listened to I can sum up the information in two words. Work harder.

The author stated this dozens of different ways, but never offered a concrete method. He never offered a reason why the book is even called the 10x rule. Sometimes he said work 10x harder. Sometimes twice as hard. Sometimes 12x as hard.

I've listened to dozens of self-help and motivational books. This is the only one I've felt compelled to leave a negative review for. Save your money =/

    "Meh."

This book was...just okay. I almost didn't finish it - and I never give up on books. But I'm glad I didn't...the second half was somewhat better than the first. The story was mostly a pep talk with essentially no actionable advice, beyond the refrain to act, and act big. What advice it did have seemed unclear, trite, or a bit contradictory. Still, if you're looking for a pep talk, this might work for you. If you are looking for actionable advice, keep looking.

    "Don't Waste Your Time"

This book lacked substance! He continually rants and reminds me of the proverbial snake oil salesman. For example, one of his big breakthrough thoughts is that if you work harder you will accomplish more. Of course this is true, but it is not the basis for an entire book. Sorry I gave away the plot. He advises to just say yes to everything without forward thought. I find people who live this approach only add complexity to your lives and usually accomplish less. I find that successful people do exactly the opposite. Successful people eliminate complexity and distractions from their life and have extreme focus on their unique capabilities. Grant might be entertaining to some people, but many of his concepts are dangerous. I am sorry I wasted my time listening to this book.

"Should have heeded the negative reviews"
What would have made The TenX Rule better?

Substance. This is attempted empty motivation without anything to back it up. And Grant's accent bugged me.

Would you be willing to try another one of Grant Cardone’s performances?

    No

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Eye rolls, sighs, and turning it off.

    Any additional comments?

4.6 stars (at the time I bought) would typically signify a marvelous book. Live and learn.

    "Motivational not Realistic"

I am an active reader of leadership, logic, and motivational topics. The content of this book is "hypey" and often not logical in nature. While I appreciate the authors excitement, I fear him setting his readers up for failure.

Additionally, the performance on this book by the author yielded additional insight. He often left his notes, mispronounced words, or you could hear noises in the background. This is not a 10X audio performance.

Still, I did grab a few helpful things in my listening & hope the best for the author on his journey.

This book is life changing if you have the winner inside you! After the first 4 chapters... my life was changed for the better forever! The week of getting into the book, I accomplished more than I had normally accomplished in two weeks... And with great focus and success! Get it... it will change your life!

"A poor version of Tony Robbins"
What would have made The TenX Rule better?

I felt shouted at by the author (who also narrates this audio book). There was a lot of theory and not much real, practical help... other than do everything ten times more, longer, etc than others. It's the statement that begins to grate within 30 minutes... just do everything ten times greater than previously and expect everything to take ten times longer and the challenges to be ten times greater. I kept listening, despite it getting harder and harder and finally gave up part way through the second CD. There was nothing new in this audio book for me.

What character would you cut from The TenX Rule?

I would have preferred a less 'shouty' narrator and someone who spoke at less than a breakneck speed.

A terrible waste of my time and money. Not a single new or insightful comment, full of one liners that offer nothing more than reading something banal like Instagram.
The are books written for those who need basic show and tell, or simplistic pronounced headliners.
It dictates that success is emulating this books facile mottos, without any evidence at all. It is unqualified and there are 10x better books and writing.

"Like being told off by your Dad"
What was most disappointing about Grant Cardone’s story?

I lasted just over and hour, and had to stop. He doesn't speak in an aggressive, patronising way, but you feel you're being told off by your Dad for not doing your homework?!<br/>That you just need to "Focus, plan and work" 10times more than you're doing at the moment. After over an hour I haven't learnt anything new, and have just had repeated "Do more than others, do 10x the amount of thinking and action you're doing now"<br/><br/>Really can't seen it's going to get any better, and if it does, it should have happened early in the book, before you lose interest

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    Afraid not

I'm very surprised to see all those positive reviews here, are they genuine? Don't bother with this book, you will learn NOTHING new even if this is the first ever book about motivation/success/achieved you read or listen to. It's just a load of fluffy generalizations with very little practical advice or anything that would motivate you to go out and actually achieve 10x. I will have to write this purchase off as a waste of money and keep going back to Brian Tracy's "Maximum achievement" for actionable tips.

    "This will change your life"

If you read the 1 star reviews you'll see that most of these say they gave up reading. Do you really want to take advice from these quitters? People who give up? If you do, you will never be successful.

This book is amazing and should be bought, listened to and re-listened to many many times by everyone that wants to improve their lives.

I first read BOBA by Cardone and this book contains some of the same topics but they are approached from a very different angle, namely: take action now, stop thinking about it, do it and figure it out later.

It will motivate you to take action and get past those mental blocks so that you can live a truly amazing life.

I would recommend buying and listening to BOBA first, then 10x.

    Amazing.

"Shouty 7 and half hours on taking Massive Action"
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

Really disappointing. This was a rehash of self help tomes on taking massive action with take ten times action repeated ad nauseam. With insights like "If success is a main concern for you, then I'd recommend you spend most of your time doing those things that will create success", this brings nopthing new apart from his repeated 10X tag. <br/><br/>I strongly disagree with his belief that most really successful people will get criticised - "You must expect criticism to come your way when you hit success". I guess that if you belive this - you attract criticism. It feels like self rationalisation and a way to deal with his feelings over people who don't rate his seminars & audio books etc. I do agree that focus on long term goals, commitment and massive immediate and sustained action are essential for success - so many other books cover this better and are more helpful on how to take that action. <br/><br/>If you are looking for success, then listen to the Chimp Paradox by Steve Peters and Jonathan Manske's the Law of Attraction Made Simple. Both of these provide the listener with useful psychological insights into how to take massive action. They are much more practical about how to get started and stay motivated - in your home and work life.

Would you ever listen to anything by Grant Cardone again?

    No

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Cardone's style is shouty and overwhelming. It's a personal development seminar on speed - rather a book reading.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The 10X Rule?

    I wouldn't publish it.

    Any additional comments?

Avoid if you aren't already a fan of the author.
