Publisher's summary

A deeply personal field guide to defeating your own worst enemy.

When you dream, you envision a magical future. You have heroically slayed the dragons and unlocked the creativity and genius buried deep inside.

But how do you actually get there?

You can analyze the myths of visionary creators - artists, writers, musicians, software developers, etc., who have accomplished the impossible. You’ll read about how they went for it, refused to quit, and would not be denied. But exactly how these successful creators went from being fearful dreamers to accomplished artists proves elusive. They seem to have secret sauce inside that you just don’t possess.

Running Down a Dream unflinchingly bares the naked truth behind all creations and shares the practical to-do list to take you from here to there.

The good news? You don’t have to be an Austen or a Michelangelo or an Oprah to create a work of art.

The bad news? There is no glossing over the pain, embarrassment, and financial terror necessary to contend with on your journey to mission accomplished.

More good news? What lies ahead for you is the realization of your heroic self. The run is worth it in ways you can’t yet imagine.

Nice book. Made me feel not alone

I liked the way it made self employment real. It is hard to work for yourself. It is easy to procrastinate and water valuable time. The days turn into weeks turn into months. Thanks for this. Only a 3 on performance because some pronunciations got in my nerves. Probably just a personal p preference.

When the rubber hits the road

Running down a dream is a real-life account of discovering what success means: that life as a writer happens when the rubber hits the road.
Tim's frank and honest story gives me hope -that I'm not alone; that perseverance pays off and produces the opportunities to smell the roses along the way, if only I value the journey as my calling. Thanks Tim! I highly recommend this.

Honest vulnerability in writing & reading

Tim’s asides are great - from the warning that the next section is not for children’s ears to his confessed intention to skip unpronounceable place & people names in a historical portion.
I received a physical copy direct from the author, but I’m glad I purchased the audio & encountered his words spoken first. He gives tools to help our own striving but reminds us through his story that we need to understand the core of why we strive. Do you have something to share or something to prove? Letting go of anxiety is worth the word of chipping away the layers. Thanks, Tim.

Tim’s honesty confirms “we are not alone in the struggle.”

This book is for all the creatives out there. Tim articulates his struggle to over come imposter syndrome and find happiness in his creative expressions. It is a journey that parallels my own in many ways and thus must be the case for many more. His revelations inspire and encourage. A must read for all creative people.
Thank you for writing this book, Tim.

Motivational

I found this book very enjoyable. I learned a lot of productivity tips and the narrative was interesting and highly relatable. The author has a natural, conversational speaking voice, which is easy to listen to. The book could have been a little longer. I wasn’t ready for it to end!

Really really good!!!

What I love about this book is how straight forward it is. Great encouragement. Nicely reassures that we’re not alone in our feelings of pressure and fear and inadequacy.

Author lays it all out

Tim has a warm and inviting way of expressing himself. His writing style is similar to mine in that he is totally candid and honest with no regard for what his readers will think of him...I love it! He conveys his message succinctly and comprehensively.
