Life can be beautiful again I

I had always thought of myself as a disciple of Jesus unshakable in my faith until. Divorce after 44 years. 4 of my 8 children also divorced their spouses and left our church. 3 major medical problems I’m dealing with including go blind. And last year after fighting breast cancer for 2 years. my youngest daughter died leaving 4 young kids. And 5 months my oldest son took his own life. There is not one thing in my life that is normal. But Lysa has such a gift to be able to take the same scriptures and the same stories I’ve read all my life, and present them with clarity and relatable to real life. I’m starting to heal I have hope again and yes I’m starting to see and feel beauty again. I didn’t think I ever would again. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world. There is so much pain and sorrow out there. Your a blessing to us all

The Best Devotional or Guide to Find Hope

Lysa is my favorite author and I have read all of her books. I listen to this book when going to sleep at night or if I desperately need to shut out the fear and negativity going round and round in my mind. I have read many books that list an emotion and the scriptures that help with that emotion but it seemed just words (I am not saying Gods word is just that words) and I would pray and I remained stuck and then God lead me to Lysa. I have very deep pain from betrayal, shame, and fear to the extent there have been weeks at a time I can’t get out of bed. I was constantly battling between thoughts of suicide but I didn’t want my husband or son to feel the pain those actions would cause them but causing them to worry about me watching me sink further and further into my depression and the shame I would feel …what is wrong with me…why can’t I be better for my family and the cycle goes over and over. In this devotional Lysa shares her heart and shares scripture in a way that is from God because I knew I was not the only one that felt such a deep betrayal over and over and little by little I keep hearing God speaking get up and fight and know my worth!!

A friend to speak truth to your hurting heart <3

“Hurting but still hoping— that is the human journey.”

Despair is en vogue. I listened to a podcast from the Village Church a while back that discussed the uptick in young adults who were proud pessimists. Many weren’t ashamed to say they were jaded. Call it what it is— despair— and the theme rings out everywhere. Believing the worst in everyone to protect yourself is actually seen as strength. To be honest, I live in that space, still.

Now, I’m married to a man brimming with joy and hope every day, and clinging to my jaded, angry fears to protect myself has— honestly— caused problems. This is one of many books I’ve reached out to to try and help me see another way of living.

“It’s hard when we are living in that space where our head knows God can do anything, but our heart is heavy because He’s not doing what we are hoping for.” These quotes from the devotional summarize well the countercultural message Lysa has for us. Bad things can happen to you, and you can still believe God is good, find peace, and live with joy.

I’m thankful for the audiobook version of this devotional because, as life has gotten busier, it was nice to turn this on in the car for long drives. At first, I found her reading style a bit campy, but it grew on me. Personally, it’s hard to practice speaking truth to myself, so this audiobook was like a friend I could turn on to remind me of the truth I’m forgetting on a daily basis.
