Cal Stringel may be dead to the world at large, but a select few know that he's still alive and in control of the most powerful suit of battle armor ever created. He's part of a rogue superteam taking the world by storm and changing the dynamic for both heroes and villains alike. With change comes resistance, and those holding control and power are not ready to just hand it over without a fight.
For the former D-list supervillain, it's time to break out the spare synthmuscle, charge the massive railgun pistol, and bring the pain. With his new team, he thinks he can take on the world, but is Cal biting off more than he can chew? He must deal with sanctioned hero teams and power-mad bureaucrats on one side and the major supervillains of his world on the other.
As Cal and his allies ready themselves to face friend and foe, he will also have to deal with his relationship with Stacy Mitchell, also known as the Olympian, Aphrodite. Separated for more than a year, they've only just reunited and are faced with the prospect of being on opposite sides of the coming conflict. Can they find enough common ground between the secrets and half truths to sustain their fledgling relationship, or are they doomed like the last time to crash and burn?

Fun, not standalone
(no spoilers beyond book jacket material)
So, you're a supervillain who's trying to be a superhero after having saved the world once. What's next?
"Secrets of a D-List Supervillain" is the sequel to "Confessions of..." (or more technically, the third book if you include "Origins of..."), however most of the book actually takes place during the last third of Confessions, while the rest of the book moves forward, setting up the story to come.
That's the thing. If you like the characters from the earlier book(s) and/or want to know what went on behind the scenes of Confessions and/or want to know what is coming up next, this book is an excellent acquisition. But it doesn't really contain a standalone story. Confessions was fine without reading Origins. It sounds like the next book might be approachable as a standalone. This one is not. That is not a bad thing, if you're in it for the series, but it is something to keep in mind.

Not the 3rd book
Don't get me wrong, I love the series and I'm looking forward to book 4. However, 2/3s of this book could've been added to book 2 and the rest would've thickened book 4. This book had no story of its own. Overall, not that bad but I expect more from Mr. Bernheimer.

Don't be like me...
I think this is the 3rd book of this world and of Cal. From the publishing dates, Confessions of a D-List Supervillian is the 1st book a d Origins is the 2nd. I started with this book and even though i was able to follow it and enjoy it, I kept feeling I was missing something. I'm definitely going to get the other two and have that feeling removed!
Good book. Audible: please look into combining the books together with a "more from thos series" tab.
