Publisher's summary

A former love makes a lasting impression in a warm and sexy romance from Nancy Herkness.

Kyra Dixon, a blue-collar girl from the boondocks, is dedicated to her job at a community center that matches underprivileged kids with rescue dogs. When she runs into Will Chase - Connecticut blue blood, billionaire CEO, and her old college crush - she’s surprised that he asks a favor from her: to be his date for his uptight family’s dreaded annual garden party. If his parents don’t approve, all the better.

Kyra’s not about to say no. It’ll give her a chance to be oh-so-close to her unrequited love. What begins as a little fling turns so mad hot, so fast, that Kyra finds herself falling all over again for a fantasy that won’t come true. How can it? She doesn’t belong in Will’s world. She doesn’t want to. But Will does want to belong in hers.

All he has to do now is prove it. Will is prepared to give up whatever is necessary to get what his heart most desires.

Good Story

3.5 Stars for me

I definitely enjoy Nancy's writing style and her world building and will continue to read her stories. She builds a secondary story that tugs at the heart strings and weaves it flawlessly into the primary story.

My deductions for this story really started in the second half and are mostly focused on the overwhelming angst and head banter. The 180 towards the end that created the conflict seemed off and a bit forced. If this story was 90-120 minutes shorter (Audible) due to cutting the angst and head banter in half, it would have been 4.5 Stars or above for me.

Meh! It Was Okay!!!

Kind of disappointed with this one. I was waiting for Kyra and Will to have a connection; it never happened. At least not the way I'd hoped. I felt like I was being told about their love instead of experiencing it along with them. : (

I Hate How She Talks In Third Person

If this book wasn’t spoken in third person! This book would be five stars for sure!

I was in love with you in college

He used to date her roommate but she had a huge crush on him. She had to drop out of college due to family illness. Years later she meets him in NY. She is working dead-end jobs. He is rich. Really cute and spicy romance novel.

Very slow story

This story was just so slow. No real peak. No build up. No mystery. Almost no plot. It was too long for a drawn out and over extended story with very little plot and more un-imagined love story. It feels like it was half baked or maybe not properly fleshed out. It could have used some more time developing a real plot, a lot more editing and a shorter time line in the story. The Narrator did the best she could with what she had to work with.

Second Time Around

I finished this one a while ago and just getting around to writing the review. Kyra and Will were friends in college, well he dated her roommate but they were friends. Now, years later, Kyra is working part time at a community center in the kitchen but she runs into Will when she stops for a sandwich at her favorite restaurant. When they didn't do a good job on her sandwich Will sends it back and she finds out he is really the owner. Small world! These two are great together. Will is so down to earth even though he is a billionaire and his family doesn't understand his wanting to "work" in the industry he is in. He loves helping her out at the community center but Kyra has a hard time understanding he is so "real." When she finally gets it, these two make the perfect team.

just... no

Will & Kira: so slow, boring and OMG the unending quotes from old literature and books just got annoying. Nobody speaks in book quotes from the past. 🤦🏾‍♀️ the story did eventually get better not there were still the quotes. Another thing was the way the author wrote the dialog for the inner city kids at the center.
“He be my dog. He just gotta get his shots and sh . . . stuff.”
Felicia said, “’cause then Shaq can come home with me for a slumber party. But Mama don’t . . . doesn’t want no barf or diarrhea in our apartment.”
“Mario doesn’t have to go lay down. He and Shaq be cool with each other,” Felicia said.
“Shaq don’t usually take to people the first time he meets them,” she said. “But he be down with you. I mean, he likes you.”
No one, not even inner city youth these days speak like that and haven't in a long time. I would suggest more research.

Predictable

Too good to be true. It gave me multiple cavities. I found this book hard to listen to even though it was free.
