This program features a new introduction read by Daniel Goleman and a bonus dialogue between the author and Jon Kabat-Zinn.

It is the tenth anniversary since the first publication of Daniel Goleman's groundbreaking bestseller, Emotional Intelligence which maps the territory where IQ meets EQ, where we apply what we know to how we live. Spending over a year on the New York Times bestseller list, Emotional Intelligence provided the evidence for what many successful people already knew: being smart isn't just a matter of mastering facts; it's a matter of mastering your own emotions and understanding the emotions of the people around you.

I wish this book had a better reader. I have listened to the entire book in several bits and pieces and I know the full contents of the book. Despite several earnest attempts, I was never able to listen to the entire book without switching to some other book in between to stay awake -- the reader is that bad. I wish I had stayed away from the audio version and bought the book itself!

reader is really bad!

I really enjoyed this book. But, parts of it. I had to suffer through some of the medical explainations. I recommend the Abridged version.

Great , but long...

The story is good but a difficult read/hearing initially at least. Makes very good and essential points and insight. The music from the recording is irritating as it overlays the narration making it difficult to hear. The narration to “rushed” in many places like it was on “ fast forward”. The narrator does a good job though, seems to be a recording issue

Music is irritating and flaws in the narration

I loved to book enough to go through the entire book despite the monotone voice who was delivered by the reader. I found it a bit amusing that a book about emotions is read by someone who's voice seemed to lack all emotion.

Amazing book, not so amazing reader.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

not a cliff hanger, it is an educational book

a bit dry

Any additional comments?

info a bit outdated, but expected give copyright date

good but a bit outdated

I really enjoyed this book. As an academic at a technological research institution, many of my peers think that emotions don't exist. Consequently, emotional intelligence is a very useful competitive tool on par with, say, using performance enhancing drugs to stay up all night tabulating test results. Oh well.

Emotional Intelligence Rules!

Quite long but worth it. Only downside i would say is the first couple chapters have a voice narration that is much more human but the rest have a more boring, monotonous narration as if done by a computer.

A wealth of information we all should have

It explains research results that can help us to improve self awareness, empathy, and social intelligence.
