Publisher's Summary

Man's best friend.

Rick is like many Americans. He's concerned with what he sees on the news, and how the country seems to be ready to tear itself apart. His biggest concern has been civil unrest. Already an avid camper, he sets out to secure his future, and career, by finding his own Eden.

Tina is a small-business owner and knows what she wants in life. She and her furry companion find themselves at gunpoint when Rick walks back into her world and forever changes the dynamic between them.

One dog, who's been the savior, protector, and companion...Opus. The owner of two humans that mostly understand him. Mostly.

When the police walk into an ambush, a series of events forces the couple to bug out. The problem with having to leave for a small town, at a remote location, is it really isn't a secret. Small towns bring their own problems with crime, and power plays. Everybody knows everybody, and the gossip mill runs as fast as lightning.

Will the trio be as prepared as they need to be?

    "I want an Opus!"

As a dog lover, I couldn't help but enjoy this book. The author wrote so effortlessly that it was over way too soon for me. The story evolves around Rick, Tina and Opus, a German Shepherd. Judging from the title, I assumed the main theme would be dystopian chaos but the title is correct - it is about survival and preparedness. You know what they say about assume :)

If this is a series, I will definitely get the next one. I want to see what happens with the trio. Kevin Pierce does such an awesome job narrating. His inflection is so sincere and keeps pace with the action.

I was provided this audiobook for free for my honest review.

"Not what I expected, but a great book!"

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

So, by reading the synopsis, and from the title, I expected a different story than what I got. It wasn't a particularly fast paced story, nor was there a ton of action, but I found myself completely engrossed in Rick's story.

Kevin Pierce was an incredible narrator. He has such a captivating voice, full of personality. The characters in the story were dynamic and fun. The story was quite realistic, I thought, and think this would appeal to most readers. I'll look for more from both Boyd Craven III and Kevin Pierce.

    "A Series of Fortunate Events."

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
For anyone who wishes to live self sufficiently. I've listened to a few "prepper" books and I have to say that this is the first not to give me anxiety. Things seem to go forward at a good pace. I think if there is any real excitement it will be in the next installment. The narration was good as well.

    "great book!!"

I was provided a copy of this audiobook in exchange for a fair honest review.

I really enjoyed this take on the classic "post apocalyptic" genre. This book centered around one man's own personal localized apocalypse, which to me is much more probable scenario than an event that would affect millions.

The book overall was a nice take on an old subject.

    "love!"

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or author.

First of all this is one of my favorite narrators! I really enjoyed this book, while it was a prepper book it wasn't extreme. I love that the author took it slow and didn't jump to conclusions. I will definitely be listening to and/or reading more of this author's titles

    Story
"The best book I have listened to so far in 2017"
Would you consider the audio edition of One Man's Opus to be better than the print version?

Yes. In a large part due to the excellent narration by Kevin Pierce. He knows how to add so much drama to a story that it makes it well worth listening even if you have read the book

Who was your favorite character and why?

Opus AKA " Wonder Dog " a mixture of Sin Tin Tin and Lassie that bites.

What does Kevin Pierce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is a master of drama and can speed up the pace in action parts or slow them down in the reflective times. He is a favorite

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was a happy , feel good story. The characters are all likable and the scene where Sarge and Opus where both injured was very sad.

    Any additional comments?

This was a book I can recommend to most anyone; but animal lovers will really enjoy Opus and his interaction with various people

I was given this book to review and the opinions and thoughts are mine and my honest thoughts and feelings

    "New storyline very enjoyable"

For animal lovers the inclusion of Opus added to the story.
Make no mistake this is not another typical apocalypse book. The story goes in a completely different direction than you expect and is very cool.
I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out, I will definitely buy it.

    "Great standalone short book."

I really enjoy a good apocalyptic/end of world or zombie series but sometime I just want to find a short, standalone book for that instant audiobook-gratification.

    "Opus!!!"

I have to say that I was really surprised with how much I enjoyed this! It was different to what I thought it would be, but a good different. This focuses on Rick, an author who has made it big in the world of Paranormal Romance and is able to live off his sales. He is happy to be a loner and loves nothing better than to go camping by himself and only coming back to reality when he has to check email or send off his newest books! He knows that being prepared is important, but with riots happening near where he lives, he stumbles upon a prepper site that piques his interest. What follows is his journey into being prepared, just in case!

This isn't a post apocalyptic book, it's simply a book showing Rick's life and why he got into prepping. It's the everyday story of one man's journey and how he goes about starting to stock up. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and getting to know Rick. I loved seeing him open up to Tina and figure out what he wanted from their relationship. I also enjoyed learning a few bits from him!!

I have to say that I absolutely loved Opus!! He is definitely the star of the show and stole my heart. I have always wanted a German Shepherd but we have 2 terriers and they are more than enough to handle!! But reading about Opus and his training just makes me want one more. You can see that the author loves dogs :)

In all, this was such an easy to listen to, and relatable read. It makes for a nice change of pace from all the post apoc fiction out there!! The characters make the book and I really hope we see more from them!

What can I say about Kevin Pierce, that I haven't already. His performance is flawless and he is easy to listen. He knows how to preform these kind of books and always does it well.

I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.
