Publisher's Summary

When an unknown someone shoots him and leaves him to die, Harry Dresden hopes he might be heading to a better place. Unfortunately being dead doesn't make Harry's life any easier.

Trapped between life and death, he learns that his friends are in serious trouble. Only by finding his murderer can he save his friends and move on - a feat that would be a lot easier if he had a body and access to his powers. Worse still are the malevolent shadows that roam Chicago, controlled by a dark entity that wants Harry to suffer even in death.

Now the late Harry Dresden will have to pull off the ultimate trick without using any magic - or face an eternity as just another lost soul....

Best thing I've ever seen a company willingly do

I listened to the previously recorded version and it was okay but Harry and Marsters are just one in the same. That is the Harry you want to spend time with.
When Audible re-recorded the book with James Marsters and then released it to fans for free - that is the most astounding thing I have seen a company / author ever do. Bravo! Way to encourage customer loyalty. This is really walking the talk.

AUDIBLE makes Fans #1

Any additional comments?

WOW! I liked this book. it was missing James Marsters but hey what are the chances that he would redo a book already done? and would I be willing to buy a book again. Audible impressed me with a yes and a no. It was redone and it was a thank you gift. now that is unheard of customer care. THANK YOU!

After 13 book i have get use to Marster voice and his performanse that with out his doing Harry Dresden isnt just Harry Dresden. Still as I did say in my other rewiev John Glover did exelent job and was best next man in the job.

Thanks Audible!

Would you consider the audio edition of Ghost Story to be better than the print version?

Yes. James Marsters adds an additional dimension.

What did you like best about this story?

That James Marsters is the narrator instead of John Glover! Thanks Audible for re-recording this title with JM!
Aside from that, I liked that Harry is more of a detective in this story. Also, he has to deal with what happens to and with his friends in his absence. I didn't see the ending coming, but it totally fit!

Have you listened to any of James Marsters’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes...all of his Harry Dresden as well as the Greyfriar trilogy. I personally think that Jim Butcher writes better books. I wouldn't have made it as far as I did with that trilogy if JM weren't the narrator, but that story just wasn't that good and there's only so much that JM could add.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

A number of moments because of what is going on with so many of the Scooby gang.

Any additional comments?

Again, thank you Audible for getting this re-recorded with Jim Marsters. The gaping hole in my collection is now complete!

James Marsters IS THE BEST!

Any additional comments?

Thank you Audible! It was an extremely pleasant surprise when Audible notify me this book was re-recorded with James Marsters. I love the Dresden Files series but it's just not the same without James's narration.

James Marsters is irreplaceable

Even though this audiobook has already been published with an experienced, skilled narrator, and that narration is OK, I chose to repurchase this Ghost Story because I enjoy James Marsters narration. I've enjoyed his work even when I had to buy them on CD. He is after all the voice of Harry Dresden, so it seemed pleasant to have this title in his voice.

But WOW!!

I had taken James Marsters skill for granted. I had not realized his ability to give a voice to such a broad range of characters, a voice which reflects the personality of the characters as each is written, and still voice an intelligent sense of the ridiculous even in the darkest parts of the story. Of course Jim Butcher had to write these characters clearly enough to give Mr. Marsters the material to work with, and Ghost Story is a pivotal novel in the Harry Dresden story, but even with material as good as this, the other narrator did not bring it to life the way James Marsters has. John Glover did a good job, its just that James Marsters is brilliant, and the contrast is amazing.

Sorry, gushing here, about the narrator, because the book has already been thoroughly reviewed. So if you've waited to listen to the audiobook until James Marsters could read it, good move. If you have already listened to the other narrator, its worth a credit or the cash to purchase this one too.

Aubible - You Guys ROCK

THANK YOU SO MUCH. Having a series interrupted by a different reader is such an unpleasant experience and this one was the worst (not because the narrator was bad, just because James Marsters is so much a part of the Dresden Files). Thank you for listening and for giving up the new recording for free, I would have happily paid for it!

Finally!!! Thanks Audible!!!

It was great listening to this book with the familiar voices, much easier, and more enjoyable. Its hard when you get used to a narrator and then another narrator jumps in to do the next book. Faced that few times and I have never enjoyed that.

Thank you audible for giving us this book for free. It was awesome.

If you red it already, you must do it again. Much better!!!!

Ghost Story Resurrected

If you could sum up Ghost Story in three words, what would they be?

Action Packed Emotion

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mortimer, though he's been introduced previously this book really develops his character and he has become a favourite.

Have you listened to any of James Marsters’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Marsters *is* Harry Dresden and his performance is excellent as always. Although the previous version by Glover was very good this one maintains consistency with the rest of the series.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Although I've already read the book and listened to the previous audio version the story is full of highs and lows. Sir Stuart in particular has some very moving moments.

Any additional comments?

An excellent book that does a good job of showing the aftermath of Harry Dresden's death.

Worst so far.

This is dull. Spectacularly, inescapably dull. Just a long, unfulfilling tale which made little sense and wasn't really of any interest. If you thought the end of the Vampire War might mean a return to good old fashioned detective work like the first few books then you were horribly wrong. A new enemy emerges suddenly to fill the void.

Ghost!Harry isn't very exciting and his inability to interact with the world didn't help. A lot of this seems contrived and the fact that every character laughs at Dresden's increasing repetitive banter doesn't help.

Oh! And it's 17 hours!! That's got to be one of the longest so far and yet with the lack of plot it could easily have been 7.

Read well by Marsters though.

At last!

It's not that the other chap (have forgotten his name, gah) didn't give it a really good shot but James Marsters IS the voice of the Dresden Files and I ended up rereading the book versus listening to the prior version because it just didn't ring right - this is by far the more enjoyable and better performed version of the story and I'm delighted to have finally nabbed it - worth the weight and every penny to boot.

Great series development

I've been steadily listening through this series and this might be my favourite book yet. Definitely not a book to start in with - but for fans it's a satisfying bit of character development and plot resolution. To me it's more developed than previous Dresden novels, which although I enjoy immensely I wouldn't say they always deliver on really developed characterisation and relationships. Plus James marsters performance continues to be some of the best audiobook reading out there!

Good but not outstanding!

I was really looking forward to the next instalment of the Dresden Files however; this book left me disappointed. The pace is slower, lots of new characters; some of which are hard to follow, and not enough of Murphy.
It was good but it wasn't the best I've read/ listened too.
James Marsters was brilliant as ever!

A brilliant "Get to know Dresden" story

If you love behind the scenes looks at characters, a story that ties up loose ends and explain those strange plot twists you couldn't wrap your head around then this book is for you.
I got a much better feel for what drives Dresden's character and after listening to the series this far I couldn't really not listen to this one could I? Trust in Jim Butcher to craft a brilliant story and James Marsters to deliver it perfectly!
Highly recommended to Dresden fans that have made it through the series so far, although it will leave new listeners slightly stumped in places as the plot is based on things that are covered in earlier books.

Worth the Wait

I've read all the books in this series including the on that follows this one. I had to wait until it was redone with the original narrator, James Marsters. I'm rather astounded that producers of audio books do not realise the importance of a narrator and that when they replace one mid series, they what they are doing is the equivalent of a replacing the entire cast in a TV show.
I am pleased that I got to listen to this one as I found the story line well written from a rather unique viewpoint. It's still Harry. He still gets into a heap of trouble and is saved by luck and friends as well as his skills but with the twist of having to operate under the laws of being a ghost.
As always the reader turns the book into a play and we hear our familiar characters come to life again.
