Publisher's Summary

Gideon McCade - weighed down by memories of his previous life as a Navy SEAL and a CIA agent - has blood on his hands. He turns to his BDSM club, Catharsis, and Dominating submissives to get him through the daily grind of civilian life. Knowing his past is too much to inflict on a life partner, he keeps his connections brief and superficial. When his former life comes back to haunt him, his desire for revenge pulls him back into the shadows, darkening his hopes for a future in the light.

Temporarily sidelining his career as a tattoo artist, Sebastian Phillips works as a composite artist for the local police department. To alleviate the inescapable burden of a congenital medical condition, he immerses himself in his art and seeks the catharsis of submission. But with life weighing heavily on his shoulders and darkness encroaching, he yearns for a contract with a Dominant that sees past the protective barriers he's erected to the vulnerable submissive within.

When happenstance brings Gideon and Sebastian together, their connection is undeniable. The knowledge that they are both too damaged to form permanent bonds of love causes them to rely on an impersonal contract to fulfill their physical needs. But staying emotionally detached becomes impossible, and breaking their contract seems the only option. Will Gideon's need for vengeance and Sebastian's declining health destroy what's grown between them, or will they help each other find their way back into the light?

Contains mature themes.

Gave me chills and made me cry throughout this story.

I actually liked this story so much more than the first two books. Sebastian and Gideon story felt so much more real. The way they met through Catharsis was just so nerve racking. You could tell something was going to go wrong. Just needed the erie music in the background to set it all up. I had jitters just thinking would could be happen to Sebastian. Then Gideon to the rescue. He needed a boy like Sebastian in his life you could tell that from the beginning. The Dom/sub was intense. The way Gideon stresses in the beginning on how there won’t be anything but the Dom/sub contract between them. No dates, celebration etc just broke my heart in the beginning. After hearing Tristan reading how Gideon ties Sebastian up I wanted to see it myself. Goodness such a powerful visual to see in my mind eye as I listened. Something I have always found interesting reading about or watching. Then there the misunderstanding that kept happening between them. The lack of communication or not wanting to share their personal life’s made it hard for me to listen to sometimes. The angry break up. Sebastian not letting anyone in. Then his health going down hill and finally needing someone there but not Gideon because he was only his sub. I guess Gideon is only human especially since he didn’t learn his lesson from the last sub he had. But once again Gideon come riding to the rescue. Showing his dominant personality and trying to fix everything for Sebastian. Loved how these two came around in the end though. They both deserved a happy ending.

Great Book But To Long

The book was good however it was far to long. I found myself skipping parts that I thought were unnecessary. I love Luna David books and will continue to read the author however I loved the first to books in the series but this one not so much.

My first audible

I chose this book as my first audible trial because it's one of my favorites. I was a little disappointed with the audible voice. It just wasn't a sexy voice. I wish Ms. Luna would add new books to this series.

Desperately needs an editor

You have to really want to finish this book. It is absurdly long. The premise of the plot has potential, but every single plot point gets dragged out beyond belief. I found myself struggling to stay engaged and skipping sections without seeming to miss anything. This book is crying out for an editor to cut out a third or more of the text.

Troubling and boring at the same time

The performance was terrible. No unique voices. And the one voice the narrator used sounded like a 1970's soap opera star. The lead character Gideon is deeply warped into thinking he has a Jesus complex with a complete lack of understanding of anything in the world around him. His object of affection, Sebastion, is a troubled guy who Gideon literally forces, with the worst timing, into a 'contract'. If you dont like the word contract do not read this book. Its used in almost every paragraph. This is a BDSM book maybe? There is endless talk of Dom's and sub's and contract but half way through the book there was one rather mild scene that was wierd at best with yet another endless contract talk. I made it to chapter 18 of 43 and gave up on it. IF I could get a refund on the credit I would.

Skip this book.

From tears to cheers

It is rare for me to submit a full review but this story moved me in so many ways, I felt compelled to do so.

It took a few chapters to fully engage in the storyline but when I did, I was totally captivated by Sebastian and Gideon’s story. The author took me from heights of ecstasy with these two characters to the depths of despair. I laughed; I cried, I cheered!

Well done and well worth the read/listen. Tristen James nailed it. Thank you!!

Hot hot hot

I am a fan of BDSM romances and this one doesn’t disappoint. Sebastian and Gideon are a great couple who have to overcome personal trauma before having their happily ever after.
There are a tease of several characters who express interest in the BDSM club so fingers crossed 🤞 that one of them will be in another book. I’m seriously praying for Aiden’s story, the oh so mysterious youngest McCade brother.
Luna David is a total treat and I love all her writing!!

I read this in book form a few years.

I'm only halfway through the 9th chapter, this narrator is beyond awful. I won't like this man reading any story let alone this one. His cadence is bad, plus it has that cheap artistic snouty quality, think very bad historical romance. I'm going to try to slog my way though because I did like the book. Will probably return it.
