Publisher's summary

Samantha Martin is an imp, bound by an angel who allows her to live among the humans...as long as she follows his rules. It's never easy for an imp to follow the rules, especially now that Sam's brother, Dar, has found himself in hot water. He needs her help to retrieve an artifact from the vampires, or the powerful demon he owes a favor to will enslave and torture him for centuries. It should be a simple courier job, but with demons nothing is simple. Sam reluctantly attempts to help her brother, trying not antagonize the vampires or the demon gunning for him, all while chafing to comply with the restrictions her angel has placed on her as a bound demon.

Lots of humor in this book

I realized that I never added my reviews to Audible for this series so I am correcting that now.
Originally reviewed on: 01/26/2017
Satan's Sword is book 2 of the Imp series. It was even better than the first book and it also had a lot of humor throughout. There were several times I found myself laughing out loud. It ends a bit abruptly but that's okay because it looks like it picks right up again in book 3.
I don't really care for the narration of this book. The narrator is really clear in her speaking but her different voices are pretty bad, especially the male voices. She also speaks slowly and there are significant pauses each time a different character starts to speak. But, even though it will be the same narrator, I'm sure I'll still listen to book 3 anyway since I like to have something to listen to during my work commute.

An imp and her adventures

I enjoyed the narration and the story kept me interested. It's not a high action book but there was some. I had a small problem with the main character's fascination with Bundy the mass murderer. But hey she is a demon. Still I'd rather she was fascinated with a fictional murder. The writer is pretty good but she leaves out little details that would have helped me imagine the scenes better. Mostly sometimes I wasn't sure of the characters body in turns of if she was naked or in another form still or what she looked like in public places. I found the storyline a nice change from other werewolf and vampire fiction. And I enjoyed the main character's quirkiness.

That amoral, depraved demon we all know and love.

Would you consider the audio edition of Satan's Sword to be better than the print version?

yes.

What did you like best about this story?

I find it strangely amusing.

Which scene was your favorite?

When she was trying to understand the serial killer. And then when she is whining to wyatt that she is upset about the serial killer being stupid and not being able to dehydrate an ear properly.

Any additional comments?

OK. So in my review of the previous book I mentioned that ALL of the characters are completely amoral. Case in point - Wyatt, the boyfriend. Their relationship is a romance novel flipped on its head and soaked in acid.... instead of the night in shining armor rescuing the helpless female and then engage in steamy moments...you have the helpless human male being protected by the serial killer demon who at one point shares its deepest fantasy....along the lines of...I want to put you in a bathtub full of blood and strangle you with some entrails that I am gnawing on.... Instead of running screaming....he's like..can we use wine instead of blood....hot stuff...uh huh...any who.... He sees her in her demon form. She offers in all seriousness to kill a rival that he lost a video game tournament to. He knows that she kills people...and he is like...well babe I'm going to play video games and then you are done killing and torturing people we can go have some hot wings at the bar..... I kept thinking about women who are married to serial killers and people are like..how did you not know you were married to a monster.... and yet I like them all....crazy

excellent follow-up

What did you like about this audiobook?

This second book in the series is actually even better than the first. The lead character was funnier than ever, more hedonistic, yet you can't help but like her candor (even as some of her actions / thoughts repulse you!)

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

Can't wait for the next installment

Do you have any additional comments?

The pace of narration was quite slow, but that was resolved by switching to 1.5x speed. However, Her narration is impeccable. She brings the characters to life such a way one wouldn't get from just reading the book. I reckon she's one of the best narrators I've come across yet.

Great Book

The book was very entertaining and I really enjoy it. Usually not into demons but Debra did a great job writing. I like that she put humor, and a little gore into this book.

Very good series

I just love the world and characters created by MS Dunbar. Suspenseful, with laughs and unworldly beings. Bonus a narrator that dose each character with a perfect voice .

A good romp, a little too violent at one point

I like the light-heartedness of Samantha, but got turned off when she killed all those men. Even so, it's a fun series, and Rysk's voice works well with the character.

Excellent set of novels

The story is great wit, humour and love all on a very dark scale.
Angela Rysk however spoils the funniest of moments with her long pauses. Her character voices are not diverse enough to fulfil the range needed. Even though I hate this and it really ticks me off I want to finish the series!

Fantastically original!

This series is quickly becoming my new favorite. The characters and plot are so unique and original, and the story is always engaging. There is never a dull moment, and Debra Dunbar has created such a fantastic world. Angela Rysk is the perfect narrator for these books and I can't wait to continue with this series!

Fantastic

The best series I have read this year. I hope audible publishes the rest of the series as they seem to have only the two books at the moment. The story and the wonderful narration bring a great combination together. Highly recommended.

Good follow up book better than book 1

What did you like most about Satan's Sword?

The irreverent humour and quite an easy listening storyline - some great lines and a fairly happy plot in that you know whatever scrapes our Sam gets into she will somehow get out in one piece

What was one of the most memorable moments of Satan's Sword?

When sam and Candy are our running and Sam tells Candy about the sexy experience she just had with Gregory

What didn’t you like about Angela Rysk’s performance?

much better than in book 1 but still the delivery is a bit awkward and poor differentiation between the characters.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Angels and Demons - the love story

Any additional comments?

I like this series, it has an original idea and the humour is just the sort I like good easy listening on long drives or flights

Took a bit to get into this one

I thought this book began a little wobbly and repetitive and I almost abandoned it. However, there is a storyline here that one wants to follow and the reader has an enjoyable style.

Once I was into the story I began to feel my interest rise. On to the next in the series.

Thoroughly enjoyed

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, even more than the first.

Having been a fanfic reader for decades I despaired in finding something fresh and had moved onto historical fiction but stumbled across this series and thought I'd give it a go since I was desperate with a long flight and a week away from home. I love this new character, Samantha aka cockroach is just adorable.

The narrator has a great voice fit for the main character, as the book is written in first person it carries the performance. A little let down with the ancillary characters vocalization but not unbearable and distinct enough to differentiate characters.

I'm looking forward to devouring the whole series.
