Publisher's Summary

Battle plans never survive first contact with the enemy....

John Eric Carver and Shrek, a retired SEAL war dog team, have created a safe haven in the high mountain desert. The remote former Boy Scout Camp seems perfect, with enough water and stored food to last years. Everything is in place to ride out the viral storm that is consuming the world.

Off the California coast, an aircraft carrier strike group carrying nearly 15,000 souls seeks refuge. There is talk of moving to an isolated island, untouched by the infected. That changes when they are given new orders to retake Los Angeles from the Variant hordes.

Survival will require courage and commitment. But most of all, it will demand sacrifice. Both groups thought they had escaped the apocalypse, but they are about to find out how wrong they are.

Excellent

I sure hope there is a third book! These are fantastic stories and I have fallen in love with Shrek. Great work to the author. This is one of my favorite Extinction Cycle spin offs and Bronson Pinchot is great!

Incredible story!

I absolutely love this story. The tale is so gripping I find my anxiety level rising as the plot thickens. I want more.

Liked Previous book better.

I enjoy the way they have Shreks point of view speaking in a German accent. I felt there was too much romance in this Apocalyptic 2nd book. Didn’t like Hope or Jen, the main female characters. They just did things you wouldn’t do during an Apocalypse. I’ve heard books by Pinchot as narrator and do not like his female voice. Sounds like a timid 9 year old girl. Shreks voice and the male voices were good.

AWESOME!

Another great book from Walt Browning. I could have done without the love interest part of the plot but it doesn't really detract anything from the book. Just a personal preference. God do I LOVE Shrek! He is one awesomely badass pup! I absolutely loved the ending: I am Shrek. I am the ghost in the night. I am a killer and I always win. It's who I am. AWESOME!!

Too much

Not believable, too much redundant Gore. No thanks. The general information was inconsistent. Not what I thought it was going to be.

Worth while

These ‘zombies’ have to be the scariest. The characters are the best. Hope the series continues.

The Empire Strikes Back apocalypse style

I don’t know if anyone else could have narrated this book better than Bronson Pinchot. His command of languages and accents is phenomenal, but his knack for projecting the emotional state of the characters and conveying intensity without overly excited narration made this a more compelling story. The first third of the book focuses on the lesser characters from the first book, giving back ground to these people and to show you how dire the situation is, and as the story progresses so does the intensity. This story has an Empire Strikes Back feel to it, the variants are winning and humans have taken a big hit physically and emotionally. I’m looking forward to the next book and hoping that the humans get a little retribution and find a way to stop the variants, most definitely worth the credit.

brought to you by model beer

this was a very good follow-up to a very good addition to the extinction Cycle Series I absolutely loved the point of view of Shrek. Porky was a really cool character and I'm glad that they brought him back in after his brief appearance in the first book. now I'm just hoping they make a third one to follow up on the series after they've cured the Hemorrhage virus and are left with the variance.
