Publisher's summary

Caleb has spent the last six months adjusting to life possessed by the vampire spirit Gray and hunting demons with their boyfriend, federal exorcist John Starkweather.

Unfortunately, the other agents of SPECTR view Caleb and Gray as a ticking time bomb. Their frustration mounts as the new district chief puts more and more restrictions on them. John wants to help, but he has problems of his own. Charleston is in the grip of an outbreak of demon possession, and the human members of SPECTR have been pushed to the brink.

But Caleb and Gray have a new ally: the drakul Drugoy and his host, Yuri Azarov. Yuri and Dru live by no mortal’s rules, and they can show Caleb and Gray how to do the same...depending on how far they’re willing to go.

Because ultimately, Caleb and Gray must decide where they belong: with the only other living drakul, or at the side of the man they love.

Fantastic storytelling, frustrating narration

I want to emphasize that I enjoyed this story immensely, especially the last book & a half of the series within this volume, which contained near constant suspense. I wanted to know how it would all end faster, but then as the ending approached, i didn't want it to end, because well, then it would be over. (I know there's a 3rd series in process, but still). I loved the new side characters introduced, at least the "good guys," and absolutely hated the bad guys, as one should.

So far as the narration...meh. The voices are pretty well differentiated, but not consistent. As in, Gray's voice changes over time, becomes even slower & deeper, and sometimes Caleb appears to have a bit of a southern accent, but other times, he does not. A side character, who is Muslim, begins without an accent, with it specifically mentioned how she has lived in the US all her life, and then in the next book within the volume, she suddenly has a totally different accent. The same occurred with another character, who suddenly had an accent he didn't before. The voice of the old district chief was different in this volume than in the first volume. I binge-listened to The Complete First Series as a re-listen, followed immediately by a binge of this Complete Second Series, so these inconsistencies might have been more obvious to me than to someone taking them at a slower & more intermittent pace though.

Over all, I would DEFINITELY recommend the book itself - it is excellent - but if I'd owned the print and had more time to focus on print, I would've switched to that route. Since audio narration comes down so much to personal taste, this is just for my own personal feelings.

Horrible narrator

I was ok with this narrator in season 1 complete series but this one wtf?. He kept changing voices and butchered Grey’s voice like he spoke a word at a time veeeeeery slowly! It kept getting even worse until the end. He gave accents that were not there before then changed again I hope they remake this audio with a better narrator. Sheesh ruined the experience. Story was great! I really enjoy this series. I’m getting the rest in my kindle can’t deal with this horrible horrible horrible and yeah horrible! narrator.

Fantastic

Truly enjoyed every moment of this series. May we all find a love like Caleb, Grey, and John's.

What happened to the narration?

Great book, very angsty (had to take a break at one point to take a breather) but would have been a much more enjoyable listening experience if the narrator didn't make Grey sound slow and stupid. It really detracts from the story and is particularly grating in fast action scenes.

Very poor quality

I love the story, but I kept hearing a hiss behind the words. I wish they had used the same voice actor they used for the first series.

not a bad series

this was entertaining narrrator was good though gray spoke too slow and he was a vampire but not like other vampires. calebs voice should have been deeper to be in line with grey. johns voice was too deep like grays too often.

Pure Gray goodness

As always Hawk hit it out of the park with the newest SPECTR series. I've had this since it came out but only recently finished it. Have to say Hawk really beat the crap out of Gray and Caleb this season. I mean - OUCH. It was good for him to come across beings stronger t Han him. But oh. Pour drakul. And.I definitely could have had a lot less Barillo, who I really hope gets his just desserts at some point. I'm rather sad about what happened in the final book - it gives Caleb and Gray a rather dark future if nobody lives as long as they will. I'm sure Hawk will figure out a fix for that. At least I hope so ;)

I enjoy Langer's voices for John, Caleb, and Gray - especially Gray and he did a good job with the others. But whereas in the first series he was continually spot on, there were a few issues with this series. I don't remember exactly which books but sometimes the voice would change, or the obvious editing was a problem. But not enough to be a huge problem.

After all, everything Gray is good, even if it isn't perfect. Here's to more Gray, Caleb, and John coming up...

really enjoyable and complete series

Well presented and well performed interesting and enjoyable story. the audio quality of one of the books in the series is poor compared to the rest (sounds like it hasn't been processed in the same way and more harsh, but still very much enjoyable). this was a fun ride!

Absolutely loved it, once again

I really enjoyed the first series and it stuck with me. Whereas usually I hear books and move on and don’t think about them again - even when I like them - because I listen to so very many, the first series stood out. I was delighted when the second series became available on Audible, but also apprehensive that I wouldn’t enjoy it as much and I might have seen the first series with rose tinted glasses. Glad to say it was brilliant. The world that is woven is really rich so I got completely absorbed in the story and the characters. The boss being awful was a little too pantomime and over the top for my taste, but it did add to the story so it didn’t make me rate the book any lower. Really sad the story is now over! The final book in the series was particularly good so it ended on a high. What a bargain to get a whole series for one credit, too.
