Story
Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death…the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense.

Awesome series! Not abridged in any way!
If you've never listened to or read a Jordan L. Hawk book you've been missing out!
SPECTR is no exception. I absolutely love the characters especially Caleb/Grey. The story is very well written and it just draws you in completely.
This collection is over 24 hours long total and let me just say my brain only let me sleep a few very short hours before demanding to find out what was happening. I even had it on full blast while I showered cause I couldn't put it down that long!
I heard about a review out there saying it was abridged and missing some bits. Per the author- there was a glitch when the file was first uploaded which has since been corrected. So there is nothing of the story missing.
If you enjoy a good M/M romance with a healthy dose of supernatural and mystery then this is a must buy.

Captivated...
When I first began this story, I was a bit apprehensive about whether I would enjoy this adventure or not...I should not have worried. Once I got started, I could not stop listening to this story. The writing techniques of Jordan L. Hawk and the narration of Brad Langer captured me and I could not escape (not that I wanted to). The story of Caleb, Gray, and John was phantastic!!! The paranormal has always intrigued me and this story with multiple adventures fed my need and desire for this genre. The book took two days for me to listen to, only because work, school, and life kept interrupting me! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I am anxious to see where the main characters go from here!

Glitch fixed! Yes, it is unabridged.
What did you love best about SPECTR: The Complete First Series?
I love everything! The story, the monsters, GRAY! Gray made me ugly cry in the best way, and laugh too.
What does Brad Langer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His Gray voice is perfect
Any additional comments?
Apparently there was some glitch in the audio when it was first released but that has been fixed now. I've listened several times and I've not noticed anything wrong or missing or incomplete.

NOT UNABRIDGED!!
Would you consider the audio edition of SPECTR: The Complete First Series to be better than the print version?
I do NOT consider the audio edition of SPECTR: The Complete First Series to be better than the print or ebook version because there are gaps in the audio version. I only have 4 hours left in the audio book but there have been two occassions where I thought, wait one chapter ended and the new one starts in a completely different spot?? I bought the ebook and low and behold there is missing narratives!! I don't know if perhaps there was an error in downloading, though the app did not indicate there was a problem.
Missing sections found so far:
1) Gray breaks back into RD to rescue John, one minute he's will John the next he's outside fighting werewolves. The audio verion is missing the fight and run in between - and it's very obvious. You go from John and Gray in the hallway to Gray fighting a werewolf.
2) What happens between Sean throwing garlic in Gray's face and Sean and John fighting afterwards. The audio books is missing the section where Sean runs out and tries to explain to John that he thought Gray was coming to get him, as in kill him.
I almost want my money back, I NEVER buy abridged books.
If this is what I noticed on first listen I hate to see what I find when I listen and read together.
What other book might you compare SPECTR: The Complete First Series to and why?
I think this books is similar in action/drama to A.E. Via and the Nothing Special series without the paranormalAbigail Rous and Madeleine Urban the Cut & Run Series, again not paranormalMary Calmes Change of Heart Series (slighly less action is some with more angst)Mary Calmes A Matter of Time Series (no paranormal with a bit more comedy)Megan Derr Dance with the Devil Series
Which scene was your favorite?
"Mortal Nonsense"
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This book is a volume that is 24 hours long. Pulling an all nighter isn't really possible.
Any additional comments?
This is an amazing series!! I'm SO glad I spent a credit on this by chance. I've found a new favorite author!!!

Great story, not-so-great narrator
I was very excited that the whole first volume omnibus was also released this way in audiobook, as I had the first book in Kindle format. John, Caleb, and Gray are definitely engaging characters, with Gray bringing a lot of comic relief at times. The chemistry between the characters is HOT HOT HOT. If you like paranormal gay romances with plenty of badassery, I highly recommend this story.
As much as I loved the story, the narrator annoyed me. The story takes place in Charleston, SC and the characters are Southern, but the narrator has an obvious East coast accent, even while reading John's amd Caleb's dialog. Also, other than Gray, all of the other characters sound exactly the same. I realize this is probably just me nitpicking, but it annoys me nonetheless.
One minor technical glitch I had was that I lost part of a couple of chapters. For some reason, a few minutes of two of the chapters just cuts off. I tried to re-download but this didn't fix it. I don't feel like I lost any terribly crucial moments, but this is also a little annoying.
Overall, though, this was definitely worth one of my credits.

Amazing
This was a great supernatural, vampire, romance with kickass action. It was a good balance between plot, dialog, and the sexy, (dear Lord frikken hot hot hot) sex scenes were not overpowering. The narration was great except for a slight issue I had with tone. For example, Caleb was separated from John for a time and the "John!" yelled at their reunion felt more like waving from across the room at a Starbucks rather than a heartfelt "thank God!" I also was absolutely annoyed by every single female character being so abrasive, rude, and angry during EVERY interaction they had with anyone. Thankfully women are minor characters but I had a hard time getting through the last book bc they had a stronger presence in it. Both issues were not enough to take away an entire star for it though. Still so glad I read it. Absolutely loved it

glad to get entire story
Great story, first I've read from author. Thoroughly enjoyed concept. Appreciated balance between romance development and action. Would have been very upset by cliff hangers between one book and the next but since I got the whole series, no issue. I look forward to the continued story but won't get it until I can get the complete series.
Narration was nothing special. Average. Great voice but couldn't tell difference between characters a lot of the time... except Gray. Good job voicing him.

a pleasant read, but don't expect any surprises.
SPOILERS!! The story is OK. But just OK. It's not boring but not stunning either. There are a few logic plot holes, a few instances where the dialog feels like it was being used as a platform for the author to state their social and political opinions or just to ingratiate themselves to their perceived audience with the assumption that we all hold those same views. The betrayal of Sean was so transparently laid out that I was prepared for it during the first book. If anything, the only surprise was that it didn't happen sooner. The love element between John and Grey made absolutely zero sense at all. We go through almost the whole series without them speaking barely two words to each other and then bam! suddenly John is in love with Grey? How? By osmosis? Lust I could have understood. Physical attraction to Grey because he was powerful, beautiful, and otherworldly would at least have been plausible. But the author needed to give us enough interactions between John and Grey to make it reasonable that they could know each other well enough for John to have fallen in love with Grey as a person. All in all, it's a good enough read if you don't want to have to think.

Pick it up in eBook instead
I loved this series in eBook, but I don’t feel the narration does it justice. These are Southern characters in the low country of South Carolina, but the narrator has them all talking like they’re from Long Island, with a stereotypical non-rhotic NY accent. It’s just super distracting. On the rare occasions he remembered where the story took place and gave them a “Southern” accent, it sounded completely ridiculous. Lastly, he mis-pronounced every single French word, and there were enough of them that it was noticeable.

I could listen to this book time after time. The narrator had such a good voice and it matched well with the great story Jordan wrote.

Story good, narrator not so good
Struggled a lot with this narrator. He kept adding inflection to speech tags based on what was said. E.g. "You okay?" he asked?
Character voices were also a bit shaky/iffy, and either he was reading from a different edition than my ebook or he skipped a dozen or so sentences in total. (I tend to read the ebook while listening, since I have a tendency to zone out now and then if I don't have something to focus on.)
The book(s), however, I don't really have anything to complain about. :)

Engaging and addictive read
Really enjoyed this series and a complete BARGAIN to get nearly 25 hours for 1 credit. Bought into the premise, world and characters and listened to the lot in two days. Good balance of action, relationship development, ‘will they/won’t they’, sex scenes and enough angst to make it interesting without being even close to too much. You really root for all three main characters. Great to have a book based on gay characters that competes with, and is better than, many heterosexual paranormal romance books out there.
This was undoubtedly a great read - and in a league of its own with how great it is within the m/m literature genre.
Don’t know why I didn’t purchase it earlier ..maybe the cover put me off? Looks a bit like all the awful soft porn books about aliens abducting a woman and them being destined mates ..groannnn. No problem with erotic books, or aliens, but so many of them are badly done. However, the cover makes more sense now I’ve listened to the book and I see it differently. EDIT: Looks like the cover has now changed since I bought this book. Still not the biggest fan of it though...

Spectacularly Awesome!
What did you like most about SPECTR: The Complete First Series?
This has probably jumped straight into first place as my favourite audio book. For a start it's the complete first series which makes it loooooong and therefore a bargain. I really got into the story there was an awful lot of plot and story the focus wasn't entirely on a relationship. The cast of characters was great you were never that sure who was good and who was evil. For a paranormal story I found myself very easily absorbed into the world, it didn't have or need any long winded introductions to things. There were also many points where I found myself laughing, which as I listen in public gets me funny looks :-)
What other book might you compare SPECTR: The Complete First Series to, and why?
I don't know I can compare it to any other book, that's why it's so fab!
What about Brad Langer’s performance did you like?
Brad Langer was a new narrator for me and I loved him. The way he voiced Grey, the Drakul, especially when he was still disembodied sent chills down my spine. You always knew who was talking even if it didn't say. I'm going to see what other titles he has recorded
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes this book made me laugh on several occasions, out loud, usually when Grey piped up to complain about some mortal nonsense.
Any additional comments?
The visuals you get from this book are fantastic, sometimes I felt I must have seen it on TV as it was all so clear in my head
