Publisher's summary

Londyn McCormack didn't have a typical childhood. She ran away from home at 16, escaping parents more interested in drugs than their daughter. She doesn't have loving siblings or an adorable pet. Her only family is the five other runaway kids who shared her junkyard home.

Life pulled them all in separate directions, taking her to Boston. For a short time, she thought she'd found something permanent. But after a devastating divorce, she's running away again, this time to find a lost friend.

She's driving across the country in her convertible. As a teenager, the rusty car was her shelter. As an adult, it's her ride to freedom.

Except one flat tire derails her trip. Her life collides with Brooks Cohen. They walked away from the first crash. The second might destroy them both.

This book ran away with my heart!!!

This book was refreshing!! Devney creates worlds that pull you in from the first page, and keeps you hanging on until the very last sentence. Londyn is looking for purpose, meaning, and peace. This one statement explains Londyn completely....I was free. I was alone. I was lost. And it was beautiful. Brooks was an awesome hero. He was sweet, gentle, and total swoon worthy. This was not just a book, it was a journey!!!
I enjoyed this journey down Runaway Road, and I cannot wait for the next book! The narration was amazing!!!

Runaway Road

I absolutely love this series! Runaway Road is the first book in the Runaway series, and what an adventure this book takes us on! It has such an original backstory (similar to the Boxcar Children books, if you remember those from childhood).

Maxine Mitchell and Jason Clarke did a fantastic job of bringing Londyn and Brooks to life! I can't wait to listen to more!

Story felt rushed

Overall, this book felt rushed. The beginning and end of the story were wrapped up in a bow, but the middle lacked depth. I needed more of the falling in love portion. I’ll give the next book a shot and decide to continue with the series then.

The narrators performed well.

Lacked emotion, very static characters

Wasn't a fan of this book. I went from chapter four directly to the last chapter. The characters and the relationships lacked emotion; storyline was faint.

Another winner

I don't think there is a book by this author that I haven't loved. In the beginning I was annoyed with London cause why would she leave when she found something good.
But she had to go through leaving to realize that she found her home.
I can't wait for the next book in this series💖

SO UNDERRATED!!! ❤️❣️

Honestly anything Devney Perry writes is perfection but this series was amazing. I can’t believe it took me so long to start this series I’ve read all of her other series and this is definitely my second favorite, my favorite being the Eden’s! However I loved this series! It starts off with introducing Londyn and her leaving the life she’s known for the past decade to start fresh somewhere else. She plans to travel with her Cadillac to cali and plans to take her time! Because she has new found freedom! She ends up stranded in a small town and meeting Brooks! Who is my new favorite book boyfriend omg! Just love this story! Definitely not what I expected in the best way 🫶🚘

Such a perfect start to this series!

“My hand pressed against my heart. She was stealing it, little by little.”

Review: This is book 1 in the Runaway Series. It was my first book by Devney and definitely won't be my last!

I love the premise behind this series. Six friends who grew up in a junkyard together. All reconnecting over a car that once was home. I loved that this junkyard was in the next city to where I live and that I go to multiple times a week. It's so fun thinking about these characters everytime I'm there. We start the journey with Londyn and Brooks. This small town in West Virginia was so entertaining and I adored Brooks. My heart hurt for Londyn and what she went through, but she definitely ended up where she was meant to be. I listened to the audiobook by Jason Clarke and Maxine Mitchell. They did a great job bringing Brooks and Londyn to life! I can't wait for Gemma and Easton next!

The Red Cadillac

i stumbled on Devney Perry while looking for other books narrated by Jason Clarke. .Some one dubbed this series Runaway. And yes all the main characters are runaways but the Red Cadillac is the glue, the catalyst, the Main character.
The beginning of this series starts with Londyn and Brookes story.. She is driving the Red Cadillac from Boston to California. She has a minor accident and needs a tow truck, His is the only one for miles,

A hot romance that is perfect for a roadtrip

I always love when Devney Perry starts a new series, I think I know what to expect, then she smashes all my expectations to smithereens in the very best ways possible.
Runaway Road is the story of Londyn McCormack, who at the age of sixteen ran away from a home without food, money or love but filled with addiction. She lands at a junk yard with 5 others, and shares her home (a '64 cherry red Cadillac) with her teenage boyfriend Kayson. Though we don't start the story there, Londyn's journey begins much later in life, after a failed marriage leaves her feeling ready to run away again, to tackle the open road across country from Boston to California in the very same car that was her teenage home. Londyn spent a lot of money having the car updated and restored, to pass on to Kayson so he can feel the joy she has, relieving the happiest days of her youth.
When a lapse in concentration leads her to end up hitting the guard rail along the side of the road, Londyn’s travel plans are put on hold whilst she’s towed to the closest town for repairs. On the plus side, the mechanic that comes to her rescue is the hot as sin Brooks Cohen, someone she is happy to spend a few nights getting to know in bed, but the plan is always to leave. After her plans are derailed further when her newly repaired car is vandalised just as she’s ready to go, the pair get closer and closer and the small town begins to feel like home.

As with all Devney’s books, the writing is outstanding, you are thrown into the action from the first word and obsessed by the end of the first page. She manages to weave a story that can relate to everyone in someway or another and endears you to all her characters without you realising, leaving you desperate for more and heartbroken once it’s over.

A phenomenal start to the new series, I can’t wait for Gemma’s story in Wild Highway, or any of the others that are still to come. Again, with every DP book, I can’t recommend this enough. Everyone needs to grab a copy and devour Runaway Road.

A well-written, cute story. Enjoyed the characters and the small town feel. Story pretty predictable, but fun. Looking forward to reading more of the series.

Listened to the audiobook:
Really liked listening to the audiobook. Sped it up a lot - too slow at 1x. Voices very well done.

It was okay, but…

Short! A surprisingly simplistic story, but fine to listen to while doing chores etc.
One thing that bugged me is both narrators couldn’t decide how to pronounce the name Gemma and would sometimes give it a hard G at the beginning (like in “good”). But not always. I mean, if you’re going to pronounce it wrong at least be consistent!!

I've finally finished this series I started with book 2. This was not my favourite, but I plenty enjoyed it. Brooks and Londyn are instantly attracted to each other and a series of events keeps Londyn in town while on a road trip to escape her divorce. The audio is really good. What kept me hooked on this is Ms. Perry's writing. It's addictive.
