Not Your Typical MC Club

This was a very interesting and different MC story. The Demented Souls were not your typical bikers, they were kind, caring guys who took care of their own and didn’t abide anyone invading their territory. Krissi has moved to town to get as far away from her father as possible. When she stops at a bar for a drink she is instantly attracted to Ruger and the feeling is mutual. Ruger is a member of the Demented Souls and when trouble comes to town and affects Krissi things go from bad to worse. There are some surprising twists in this story which made it quite interesting. I did have a difficult time connecting to Krissi for some reason. She just seemed off to me or something, I just couldn’t find it in me to really feel as much for her as I should for the heroine of a book. I loved Ruger on the other hand, as I did all of the members of the MC club. They were all fantastic. It will be interesting to hear their stories. I admit to fast forwarding through the intimate scenes after the first one, there were more than enough for my liking, however if this is the sort of thing you like you’ll be happy. I loved the ending. D.C. Cole did a wonderful job with the narration. He did an amazing job with all the voices and emotions and brought the story to life. I received a free copy of this audiobook and have voluntarily provided an unbiased review.

A Babe And Her Biker

Ruger is a really solid start to the series. Krissi is a self reliant college student with plenty of street smarts. Seeking familiarity she steps into Ruger’s bar and nothing will be the same. Their chemistry is instantaneous, it’s fun watching them fall into each other.

The underlying theme is secrets. Krissi and Ruger both have them in spades. And as time goes on and their relationship deepens it’s getting harder to keep the secrets hidden. In the end they will find out how much trust they actually have in their relationship and how much truth they can handle.

I love that Krissi is not a damsel in distress. She is comfortable in her own skin and a really fun character to inhabit for a while. They are some side characters that are introduced and have enough interest peaked that I would be interested in continuing in the series. I will admit I saw the big secret coming but it did not diminish the overall experience. And I can’t wait to see how it plays out moving forward.

The narration is really great. His voice is easy to listen to and kept me engaged through the whole book.

I think this could be a great starter MC book for someone who is curious but isn’t comfortable with the darker themes they can contain. Also for fans of heroines with some grit and a backbone.

A legit MC...who knew!

Good story and start to this series. College student and a bar owner start having a fling. When she is kidnapped because of her affiliation with him, her secret comes out...she’s the daughter of a notorious MC president. What will this do to the MC.
Lots of steamy moments but not too much that it overpowers the storyline. Great narration.

Shouldn’t Disappoint ANY MC Romance Lover 🏍

DC Cole does an excellent job pulling you into a pretty decent MC Romance series. Introductions to the club’s main characters are deep enough to understand the individuals and prepare for their stories yet to come.
Krissi is likable and strong. There’s no misunderstanding her motives or fears. Ruger isn’t played up as a ladies man, although he has to be. He has that insta-love for Krissi. Unfortunately, he’s described as dark haired and the cover shows him as dirty blonde. I hate when covers don’t match characters!
There are some very short follow-up novellas which I think will deepen our introductions to the other members.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. My review is HONEST.

Great Introduction to the Series!

This was my first Melissa Stevens's book. Ruger is the first book in the Demented Souls, a MC Series. This is a great introduction to the Serise. Ruger is an alpha man, possessive and protective. Krissi is a strong woman. Their story is fast-paced, filled with twists and turns. The secondary characters are great. DC Cole did an amazing job with the narration. I love his voice! All characters were easy to distinguish. Now, I can't wait for the next book in the Series.

First MC book I’ve liked in awhile

This is the first MC book I’ve liked in a long time. I loved Krissi. She was a strong character who knew when to take help. Ruger was almost sweet for a club member. I really enjoyed listening to their story. And I am looking forward to more of the Demented Souls.

The narration was really good too. Narrator did a great job and separating the characters.

Everything I didn’t know I wanted in a book!!

I can’t even tell you how much I LOVED this story!! The characters are outstanding! I throughly enjoyed learning about them. Ruger!?! OMG! Could he be any more possessive? I loved it!! All the growlyness and the sexiness! Day-um! I want a Ruger for my own! Krissi is a strong confident woman. She takes no crap from anyone being a daughter of the Prez of an MC. I can not get enough of their connection together. I was literally listening with bated breath for their next encounter. It’s not only HOT but sweet and tender.

The rest of the MC are a sight to behold. Tuck, Crash, Gizmo and Sadist etc. How can these guys be anything but interesting with names like that?! I am waiting for these boys to get their HEA.

I listened to this on audio and BOY am I glad I did. D.C Cole narrated this and he did wonderful. This is a first for me with the narrator and author. So I was pleased and look forward to more of these guys. Next please!

A different kind of MC club!!

I enjoyed this start of a new MC series, by new to me author Melissa Stevens. I would definitely consider this more of a MC lite, but still had some mystery and suspense in it. Ruger and Krissi had great chemistry and, oh the banter!!! Krissi was a sexy and sassy heroine, which I totally love and Ruger was the quintessential alpha male. This MC club is maybe not all that it seems and I cannot wait for more!! The audiobook was narrated by DC Cole who did an awesome job, I just prefer dual narration!!

Melissa Stevens’ creates an interesting storyline with her unique spin on the MC Demented Souls! Although I enjoyed it, there were a few scenarios that should have been better explained. DC Cole is a new narrator to me but he did an okay job with narration. Overall it was a good story.

Ruger

Their perfect kind of MC book that has all the actions you expect. You have violence, love, distrust that can turn into trust and a villain that needs to be dealt with. Loved this book!

I want more!

I just finished listing to Ruger and couldn't wait to write this review. This was a very well written MC romance. I've been listing to MC romance for many years, sadly, recently I've had more misses than hits. This was the first MC book that I liked in a while.

Melissa Stevens wrote an exceptional story with a satisfying plot and well-developed characters. Ruger was a classic alpha-male, protective but not overbearing and controlling. Krissi was both strong and independent with no flares for drama. I adored both characters. The communication between them was amazing, with no silly misunderstanding nor unnecessary drama.

The intimate scenes between Ruger and Krissi were beautifully written. Towards the end, there was a nice twist to the plot. I can't wait to listen to learn of the Demented Souls world and to see what's in store for the rest of the characters, Sadist, Crash, Tuck and Gizmo and etc.

D.C. Cole did an exceptional job narrating this audiobook, especially with the duel narration. I loved the voice he used for Ruger. He was on point and the listener could easily tell the characters apart.

I highly recommend this audiobook to all MC Romance listeners.

Very good listen

I liked this story very much. Great characters and entertaining plot with a surprise twist. I liked Krissy's silent strenght. She and Ruger were meant to be. Ruger's loyalty to her was unquestionable.

D. C. Cole's narration was yet again fabulous. I loved his voices both male and female and biker slang too. Brownie points for the quality of the recording.

Good MC story that isn't too angsty

This is a sweet, generally low angst story, which is interesting since it’s an MC book. Ruger is a very sweet hero- he is protective, loyal and kind, especially to Krissi. Krissi is a student but she also has a secret- her father is the President of another MC but in this case, a bad MC. The Demented Souls are made of good guys who may not be perfect but have a code of honor. I like the idea that these are good guys and I liked how Ruger and Krissi’s relationship evolved and they both learn to trust each other. There were issues with other MCs that the Demented Souls had to navigate so there was a little action and suspense but overall, it wasn't as angsty as many other MC stories I've read. That's good though- it was an easy going read that I really enjoyed. (by the way, the twist was great!)

DC Cole was good at narrating- he did a good job differentiating between the characters and his pacing was just right. I found it easy listening to him so I'll look forward to listening to any future story narrated by him.

Holy twists Batman

Wow. Ruger was hot from the start and him and Krissi were electric. I loved their story!!

Ruger and Krissi meet when she targets his MC bar. She feels at home there and so she goes in orders a few drinks to take the edge off and then gets ready to leave when sparks fly with Ruger.

I felt like this story flowed nicely and had a good pace to it. I was surprised with Krissi being targeted and was very wrong when it was because of Ruger and not who she is.

Ok so I have to talk about this twist. This book got me. I never expected that and that was the last thing I expected.

Also I love D.C. Cole. His voice is the perfect raspy deep sexy you want in a males voice and I love when a man narrates a book like this one. It gives it just that much more. However I only gave 4 stars for his performance because there were quite a few times he would say “Rugger” instead of “Ruger” and that really distracted from the storyline for me. Otherwise great performance!

Great start to the series!

I am intrigued by motorcycle club books, and when this came out I was very excited! I couldn't wait to start it ,and as I listened, was pleasantly surprised by the way this story develops. Ruger is part of the Demented Souls MC and when Krissi comes into their bar, he is taken with her. The attraction mutual, these two are meant to be together. Or are they? Krissi has a past that keeps haunting her. Running is not helping and when it catches up with her at the Demented Souls, things start to get dangerous. Will it be too much to keep these two apart? I loved Ruger. I found his character to be the alpha male type I love, the rugged, protective man that will do anything to keep his woman. Krissi is a little harder to like for me, but I think she is meant to be that way. Detached from so many, she is much more distant in her commitment. This book has twists and turns you will not expect, great secondary characters and ones I can't wait to have their own stories told.

Now the narration. DC Cole is one of my favorites, and each time I hear him, he gets better. His performance of this book is spot on, nailing Ruger down with a raspy, sexy voice when with Krissi, but a deadly voice when dealing with danger. He seamlessly flows from Ruger to Krissi and lets us flow with the story. I loved his portrayal of this book.
