Publisher's Summary

There are many stories about regular girls meeting a prince, falling in love, and living happily ever after...blah, blah, blah. This is not that story.

As a lowly Baron’s daughter, I sit on the outskirts of the noble circle, watching the royal family from afar: exactly where I’d rather be. To me, that world was anything but magical or fantasy. While their lives were under a relentless microscope, controlled by traditions and expectations, I was the girl dreaming about becoming a veterinarian and surrounding myself with animals instead of people.

A wallflower who suddenly bloomed, I somehow nabbed the attention of the arrogant, but undeniably handsome, Theodore Alexander Philip Robert David Livingston. The Prince of Great Victoria. I never imagined falling in love with a prince, but I did.

When Theo comes back from the Royal Air Force with an extremely sexy, but extremely arrogant new bodyguard, Lennox Easton, everything is flipped upside down. Tattooed, mysterious, and cruel, our mutual hatred for each becomes even more complicated when I move into the palace, becoming the official girlfriend of Prince Theo, and now under Lennox’s watch. Thrown into a society which controls my every move, social media viciously coming after me, and paparazzi looking for any juicy gossip, my world becomes a cage. Gilded or not, my life becomes nothing like I imagined. I find myself turning to the very last person I should.

When family secrets start to surface from the past, old enemies come for revenge, along with blackmail, forbidden love, and devastating revelations. Everything is set to bring me down and even take my life. I knew loving a prince would come with sacrifices, but when you give up everything...when does the fairy tale become a nightmare?

A turtle stomping through peanut butter is faster

First - Narration is wonderful. her voice was amazing. She doesn't put on a "male voice" when reading the male character lines (SO REFRESHING) and her diction and tempo are superb. So maybe it was the accent that made me think this was going to be a great story. I was wrong.

Second: All I kept thinking during the story was when does something, anything start. It is such a slow moving story with no change in tempo or temperature when the "spicy" scenes get started. Which I wasn't looking for, but if you're going to write a spicy scene or the start to a spicy scene, the writing needs spice. I need more than salt and pepper. I felt so bored listening to this story. At one point I forgot I was listening, because literally nothing happened. Nothing caught my attention. The

And then I realized it was Book 1.. yeah no. I could care less what happens to these 2 characters. I am so uninvolved in the story at this point that I am deleting it from my library and I want the my time back. I got to chapter 23. Wish I could have finished it, but I was just too bored.

Time wasted

Dull and slow, hard to keep listening.
Very disappointed on the length of this book, only to find out it continues on in another book.

Cliffhanger, but book 2 is 🔥🔥

I liked the heroine. This story upended the fairy tale, which was a nice change. Agree with others that there is a Princess Di vibe to the heroine. I’d even add Meghan Markle, as well. I’m giving this book 4 stars. I couldn’t stop listening to it.

However, I was disappointed with the lack of steamy scenes. To be fair the characters are 18 and then 19, which is very young for the intense situation. But ok, suspension of disbelief.

PS: Just finished Book 2 and 🥵🔥. Yes, please!! The chemistry and sex scenes were HOT. Book 2 made up for Book 1.

Love triangle

I’m just a sucker for happy ending. I dislike how she is using Theo. Clearly the day he came back to see her she was already attractive to his bodyguard. She should of simply said that she was not ready to go public with him. But go public in 3 or 5 years. After she date around with other guys.

Unsure but going to give the sequel a try

Very much a cliff hanger ending!!! I find this a frustrating modern technique used just to get us to spend more for stories. However, the story on it's own is interesting and well performed if a bit angsty for my preferences.

I enjoyed the subtle display of the many ways women have of reacting to the contradictory and every evolving societal expectations pushed upon us and internal pressures that must balance or desires to them. The primary character is a strong, intelligent woman who has every appearance of an entitled life full of opportunities. This volume is basically just the story of how every opportunity really isn't one, or as the societal manners ingrained in her (as well as as quite a bit of learned helplessness) keep her from taking the ones that are and dealing with the consequences.

The main character is on the lowest rungs of "royalty" and therefore neither royal nor common. I think the author made her best friend half black in order to mirror the rejection she faces from being neither white or black enough to fit in anywhere.

I bring all this up to make it clear that this isn't a book meant to be a fluffy read, but does have deeper layers to it. Disappointingly the cliffhanger leave us at everyone's worst point without the redemption to get us to forgive the human weakness that has brought them there.

Really obnoxious

I really did not like 80% of the characters in this story and it is so slow. I couldn’t finish it. I quit with about an hour and a half left. I was completely annoyed with the main character.

Royal watch

Loved the adventure of being a teenager, desiring that, and yet, forces to grow into an image Spencer is not ready for. I hate her uncle for his selfishness and wonder how many men like the duke are out there prying on young girls because of their power and position. I enjoyed the first so much, I am adventuring into book two. Can’t wait to see what happens with Spencer and the decisions she has to make.

Royal intrigue

This is my introduction to Stacey Marie Brown and I was not disappointed. This is not a fairytale, its heartbreaking and a little frustrating but a definite page turner that will keep you invested. Good Story! Narration was great.

just one jerk after another

This is well written but every guy is a trash fire. It was hard not to be grossed out by the guys.

Enjoyed every minute!

I absolutely loved these characters. Great mix of love, intimacy, with a fun and engaging storyline. I’m hoping I find more books about this family. Narration was perfect! Both books were great.

Ends on a Cliffhanger!

This book is about a teenager and feels as if it should be aimed at a similar age group. It is an easy read and gives some insight into what it might be like becoming a Royal. It is annoying that it ends on a cliffhanger.

Terrible

Did not get past the first 5 minutes. I am not sure who it’s written for. The main characters are teenage girls where they imagine they are the only decent people while judging everyone else by their looks or names. Reverse snobbery done very badly.
