Publisher's Summary

After a botched raid in Afghanistan, ex-army specialist Michel Deverroux returned to Galveston, Texas, with more baggage than intended. Without family, friends, or money, Michel turned to drugs to relieve the horrors of war. He knew it was a dark path, but he saw no other choice. Michel was awash in a world of numbness and addiction until his estranged uncle Andy died, leaving Michel a rundown beach front home and a hefty inheritance.

With something to finally call his own in the world, a spark of hope returns to Michel's life - a spark that is ignited when he sees a somber yet beautiful woman walking along the beach. Michel falls instantly in love with her and nicknames her his "Mermaid". Now, determined to be a man that his new love would want to be with, Michel vows to turn his life around and win over his "Mermaid", Annabelle. Overcoming the shadows of his past seems nearly impossible, but the drive to have Annabelle gives Michel the motivation to overcome his demons.

"Returning Vet Emotionally Damaged, Headtbroken Girl"

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Michelle (hero) has returned from war after seeing a friend shot by a young boy, who Michelle then shot. He is emotionally torn apart. Also at 13 his parents disowned him and his only single male relative he was close to dies when he gets home.
Dependency on drugs and a stint of selling drugs, !i belle brings to pull his life together. He lives on to he Texas beach and the sight every evening of a young woman walking on the beach calls to him.
Annabelle is the girl, who lost her mother recently and a month before her wedding her groom has an affair and says terrible things
    to break her self confidence.
There is a nice amount of background of the H and h, you come to like and sometimes frustrated with each of them.
It's a shorter story but feels complete.
The narrator has a great voice and does an excellent job with male and
female..great timing and emotion. He is a narrator a i know an eill always enjoy.

    Any additional comments?

This is my second book by Amber Burns and I enjoyed the narration by the talented DC Cole, but I found this story to be a little bit dull in the romance aspect. I also had a hard time buying the Insta love between Michel and Annabelle.

    "Nice, sweet romance story"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would say this is a good listen and would recommend it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Heart of a Hero?

I likes when they first met in the store and Michel was so stunned he wasn't able to speak right away.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reaction but I thought it had a good storyline and the narration was very good.

    "Quick Charming Romance"

I enjoyed this short and sweet romance. I thought it was going to be more emotional and intense by the way it started off, but it leveled out quickly. Michel Deverroux is struggling when he first gets back from Afghanistan. He isn't sure where his life is going and doesn't make the best choices. But when tragedy strikes he finds a way back to living a life he can be proud of. He meets and falls in love with sweet Annabelle. This story is how they grow and make a life together. Of course life is never easy and they navigate the bumpy journey together. DC Cole does an amazing job bringing their story to life and making the whole experience more enjoyable.

DC Cole does a great job narrating this one. I was expecting something different from this story from beginning chapters. But, it was a short, simple listen.

    "Had Potential"

For me, I think the narrative was the only thing that really kept me interested, the story started off interested and then I`m not sure what happened.
At some points it was like I was reading two different stories.
DC Cole did a great job narrating, never disappoints.

    "Hero in many ways"

Michel and Annabel find each other after each has had sadness and tragedy in their young lives. Michel overcomes quite a bit to be the strong, caring man, Annabel knows he is. Great story, loved the "dessert" scene... it is a must... and I too love chocolate cake....

    "Gripping Story!"

Amber Burns is an author who is new to me, while I have listened to several books performed by D.C. Cole. The narrator has a gravely voice that pulls one into the book. I loved the unexpected twists this story had. The narrator was able to put so much emotions into his performance. With the story being written from Michelle (? spelling of main male name) POV, I thought the narrator did an excellent POV. I loved how the author was able to pull two damaged people together and how love heals. This is a sexy standalone listen. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher, and or narrator.
