Publisher's Summary

With four back-to-back best-selling suspense thrillers to her credit, Catherine Coulter has earned an ever-growing following, thanks to her vivid characters and satisfyingly unpredictable plots. Now Coulter delivers a novel predicated on a baffling threat, fueled by a hatred dating back a generation.

Political speechwriter Becca Matlock is at the top of her professional game, working for the re-election campaign of New York's popular governor, when she receives the first phone call: "Stop sleeping with the governor or I'll kill him."

Although Becca isn't sleeping with the governor, the menacing ultimatums persist. The police suddenly stop believing her, even after the stalker murders an innocent person to prove his point.

When the governor is shot in the neck, Becca flees for the safety of coastal Maine, choosing to hide not only from the stalker but also from the authorities. For sanctuary, she goes to Riptide, the home of a college friend - where she soon finds herself at even greater risk.

Critic Reviews

"The suspense builds and with it a romance between Becca and Adam, her main protector. Coulter has penned another fun read. The characters are well drawn and act plausibly." ( Library Journal)

Riptide

Are we really expected to believe that the FBI and CIA would let an amateur run the show? This was not one of my favorite books or readers. Maybe if the reader was a little more enthusiastic and not so childlike she could have helped this book a little.

Enjoyable, Bu....

I really enjoy this authors books and stories, but her excessive, & (any) use of using the Lord’s name is vain makes me want to D/C her books. Try being a little more creative and broadening your vocab. Taking the Lord’s name in vain is very offensive to many people, way repetitive in her books and becomes mundane! It upsets me so much too, that I lose my concentration. Which totally is another negative against this author! Don’t minimize yourself so much! You’re a great story teller, but you seriously need to nix the offensive words out! Thank you!

You reap what you sow..

The story was a fast paced, action packed, post Cold War/spy thriller. But the topic could have been coined from today’s Britain and USA news headlines.
All the characters were fully developed, engaging and realistically portrayed. Even when you thought the story was over, there was an added little surprise and suspenseful thrill towards the end.
The narrator did a very good job of conveying the story line and depicting the personality of each character.
A very spectacular and engrossing listen. I enjoyed it from start to finish.

Great, Great story.

This was one fun thrillride. The best part is you get two fantastic storyline in one book. I am a big fan of Catherine Coulter's books. Once again she doesn't disappoint.

FBI series

I really like the Sherlock/Savage FBI series. The books are entertaining and well written. This narrator was also very acceptable. This wasn't my favorite in the series , but still worth the credit

OMG!!! CATHERINE DOES IT AGAIN!!!!

Would you listen to Riptide again? Why?

YES. BECAUSE CAT HASN'T DISAPPOINTED ME YET.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Riptide?

When Becca Finally Met Her Dad.

Have you listened to any of Laural Merlington’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No. Laugh. Teared up when she met her dad.

Any additional comments?

Must read or listen. Catherine is at the top of her game.

Story Great, reader horrible.

Would you try another book from Catherine Coulter and/or Laural Merlington?

I have read all of the FBI series a number of times, but do not enjoy the audio books because the reader does a terrible job.

What didn’t you like about Laural Merlington’s performance?

She does a terrible job with the various voices. She cannot do male voices at all. She made very macho verile Dillion Savich sound like Pee Wee Herman. All of the male voices are high and squeeky.

Was Riptide worth the listening time?

Yes, if you can get around the readers voice, the story is great. Luckily I have read the book a couple of times.

Fan of the series, but was bored by Riptide

I'm a fan of the series, The Cove was ok, THe Maze was pretty good, although The Target was a little slow at times overall it was good. However, I was not interested by the characters or the plot in this one. I also found the narrator's voice a little bit annoying, although I have a hard time pinpointing why. I always like to read series from the beginning and in order, but I could have skipped this one. I am sure the next one will be better.
