The first time I met Merrick Crawford was during my job interview. Well, technically, I’d met him 20 minutes earlier when he’d barged into a fitting room a few doors down from my appointment. I yelled. He yelled. After an argument while standing in my bra, I proceeded to smash the door into the gorgeous jerk, trying to yank it shut. As you might imagine, I was freaked out when I discovered that the rude guy was my potential new boss. Yet he didn’t seem to recognize me. Or so I thought.... Until we wound up bickering again during my interview and he told me to go sniff my armpit.

Reasons why I should not be drawn to Troy Serrano. Number one: He’s obnoxious. Number two: We were enemies more than a decade ago. Number three: He’s my friend’s ex-boyfriend. I could go on and on, really. When my boss gives me an unwanted assignment, and tells me it involves spending time with the grandson of one of our residents, the grandson turns out to be Troy. Lucky me. Four hours a week of having to deal with his insufferable personality and unsolicited advice - the only consolation is getting to stare at his annoyingly gorgeous face, in between our many arguments.

After I’m arrested for throwing a raucous party, my hockey team says I have an image problem. And I need to fix it, stat. Charity work? Check. Haircut? Sure. But I draw the line at hiring my neighbor to style me. In the first place “style” shouldn’t be a verb. And I’m tired of people who’d judge me on appearances. Vera and I don’t see eye to eye on anything. She wants me to try on clothes, while I just want to remove hers. She's distractingly pretty, with soulful eyes and a sinful mouth that likes to argue with me.

We met in the least likely of places. It started out innocently enough. I was “ScreenGod”, and she was “Montana”, but of course those weren’t our actual names, just the virtual cloaks we hid behind. Logging in at night and talking to her was my escape - my sanctuary. Her real name was Eden, I’d soon come to find out. From the first time we connected online, I found myself transfixed. I’ve tried to like Adrian Savage, the mercurial frontman for Fugitive Summer, while serving as his band’s opening act on tour. We’re stuck together for three months, after all. And I’m well aware I’m lucky to be here. But it’s proved impossible. He’s far too rude and dismissive a guy to get along with. And way too good at getting under my skin. In fact, at this point, I think it’s fair to say I downright hate his guts.

Publisher's Summary
Keith
Yeah, I’m screwed up. I’ll admit it.
People think they know why. After all, my superstar brother’s past looms large.
Don’t I wish it were that simple?
It would be so easy to blame all my problems on the childhood tragedy that ripped my family in two...but it would also be a lie.
Sam knows the truth. She’s always known, and yet, she’s loved me from the start.
I try so hard to hold onto her, but I’m messed up.
And she’s not going to wait forever.
Samantha
No one saw us coming.
I was the quiet, smart girl on track to college.
He was the aimless high school surfer/stoner on track to expulsion.
We helped each other. We fell in love. We were supposed to live happily ever after.
But with Keith McKallister love has never been enough.

First, the narrators are perfect. Andi Arndt is always beyond amazing, and Alex Kydd was a perfect choice for Keith.
I read this story first, and listened to the audible version when it was released. Sam and Keith are just like all of the other characters in this series.... hilarious, lovable, relatable and memorable. This entire series has become my ALL-TIME FAVORITE. I can't wait for the next one.

A little heavy for me
Loved the narrators and enjoyed catching up with the McAllisters but the themes were so heavy and one on top another that it was hard to get through. The HEA was the payoff but I guess I wasn’t in the right head space for something more difficult to get through. Be ware that this isn’t a light romance story but had more “reality” than I wanted in a genre I usually like to use as escapism. Still very well written as expected from J. Bengtsson.

A rollercoaster of emotions!
First of all, if you haven't read the Cake series you're missing out. Go read them!
Rogue Wave have all the feels. I've been patiently waiting for Keith's and Sam's story and it did not disappoint. I thought Kyle was the quirky one, turns out Keith was long before him. Their story started from high school and journeyed over many years. This book have a serious vibe to it but it was also highly entertaining, filled with laughter, love, and a few obstacles that could have broken stronger than these two. One minute I'm laughing out loud, the next I just wanna cry. J Bengtsson is just that good at weaving a story. I've been all in with the McKallister family since Jake's story and I just enjoyed seeing them get happy endings. Just in case you miss Cake, Kyle, Kenzie, Finn, Emma and all the rest of the gang, don't worry we get to see them again in this one too. I finished reading this in one sitting and as with the others I will be reading it again. I just hope this isn't the last one, after all there's still Grace and Quinn!
This is my first Alex Kydd listen and I was really impressed with how he portrayed Keith, Andi Arndt as usual was just awesome.

A stellar work of storytelling!
There is nothing that I didn't enjoy of this story and this audiobook. Jill Bengtsson has such a true grasp of this characters and this family and us as readers we do anything to follow along and just feel the ride... In this case, ride the wave. This story was very well crafted, it hit all the notes that one just knows Jill will work on delivering. The emotional buildup, the friendship, the chemistry, the family dynamic, the rock bottom moments and the growing through tough times. Keith was so flawed but, like the rest of his siblings, he had a noble heart and that kept.me wrapped in his story and engaged as a listener. Sam is such a great female lead, because we were able to see.her grow into womanhood and always be true to who she was. Both Andi Arndt and Alex Kydd delivered a performance well worthy of the standard this series has consistently given to its fans. With Alex Kydd the California surfer stoner seemed to have more depth and he managed to portray all the vulnerability of the character with such truth that it was impossible to stop the audio, even at moments when the story hurt. I was a fan before but I really think he is a narrator to watch since his talent seems so raw and real. I loved it all!!

I was worried that being a new author, J Bengtsson’s series would deteriorate in quality over time. However it has only gotten better!! Impeccable!
Combine a gorgeous, heart twisting story, choc-a- block with character, humour, love, heartbreak and heart warming, and you have at your finger tips another of J Bengtsson's wonderful stories. The character development, the wit and writing, full of verve and emotion all combine to create an enchanting read. All of Julie's characters experience life's extremes and, with Keith, we have some poor choices to add to the mix. Sam is just a beautiful, strong soul. I love her!
Andi Arndt and Alex Kydd are fabulous choices for the story of Keith and Sam. They bring all the humour, wit and the sense of their struggle to find their place in life together, to vivid life. I was just completely caught up in their masterful story telling and relished every minute of this fabulous audio.💖💖💖

Sweet and real young love to second chances
I've listened to the other stories in this series and was excited to hear Keith and Sam's story which I never imagined would've been so sweet and awesome and sad and a little tragic (don't worry you get a HEA!) I loved the beginning parts of their relationship in school, it was so lovely to see how the girl that goes unnoticed in school got together with one of the popular guys. Obviously I knew there was a tough bit coming with what happened to Jake but I never in a million years imagined poor Keith (and Sam by default) had such a hard time getting his life back together afterwards. It was painful and upsetting to read as you just wanted Keith to do the right thing for Sam. I loved the way they found each other again in later life and but then again had such sadness hit them again. This was a rollercoaster of a story and Bengtsson again with her beautiful story telling did an epic job! The narration also was perfect, Alex was a new to me narrator but he quickly became Keith in my mind and Andi as always has such an amazing voice that you can imagine her as a teenager or and adult. This is a must read if you've read the rest of the series!

Enjoyable listen
J. Bengtsson is a reliably great author, and this book is a good addition to the series. I love how you see major events through a difference lens with each book and see how they have impacted everyone in the family, and the choices they make. It’s such a well thought out and well executed concept. The only downside to this book was I’m not particularly attracted to slightly dim stoners, though he was likeable. Also the drama towards the end was annoying and just there for plot drama but left me wanting to shake the characters to wake them up. The overall book was still well worth a listen though!

hmmmmm
loved all the cake series books but this one i got frustrated with. lots of teenage background story which made me feel it was a young teenager book. I think the heroine's actions did not match the love of her life that was trying to be portrayed.
definitely not fave
