Publisher's summary

I, Ellis Rosabell Kennicot, was murdered.

I’ve been tortured ever since, and not just by the frustratingly beautiful Grim that recruited me into Reaper Collective. A little drool and pining won’t stop my supernaturally beating heart. It’s been three years and my persistent death nightmares have become a total snooze-fest, but the who and why gnaws on my nerves at night. If I can keep kicking soul-collecting ass and keep my mouth on a tight leash, I just might get the answers I’m dying to know.

The problem? Souls have been extra ornery lately, morphing into Glitches (picture truck-sized black holes) that make my job a lot harder. While on a routine assignment, I hear an otherworldly siren cry that transforms my tamed objective into a carnivorous Glitch.

Turns out I’m the only one who can hear the devil’s sound. So, I’m handed everything I’ve been wanting on a silver platter: A sweet undercover gig with free reign in the physical world, and an even sweeter apartment in the big city. But no sweet thing comes without its cost.

I’ve already lost my life. The price this time might be my soul.

fab narration and light hearted story

Correct me if I am wrong but this girl had some wit and a lot of sass. She reminded me of another reaper that gave me some of the best reading and fantasy transportation with an outstanding romance. I will absolutely sign up for another go with Ellis. She was just plain fun. I loved her banter with others and with herself. She was that best friend that wanted to make things light.

I look forward to seeing more of Ellis and where she goes from this point. Will she get the Grim? Will she find more to get into? What will be the true destiny for her?

Stephanie Nemeth-Parker was out delightful narrator. She made this truly feel like it was a fantasy. She had the lyrical quality in her voice the captured the feel of Ellis and gave credence to the fantasy world that we were experiencing.

Fun reaper fantasy story

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Riley Archer. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

I'm a fan of sassy reapers. This series kind of gave me nostalgia for another beloved reaper series, so I'm definitely happy I got to give this a listen. Ellie is a reaper now because someone murdered her and recruited her for the Reaper Collective, but she doesn't know what happened. As she tries to do her reaper job, she keeps coming across strange things, souls acting strangely and glitching out, and she keeps searching for her answers. And she finds them, alright. Finds out that she was destined for so much more than she thought. Finds out who took her life and put her in this world. I'm very curious to find out all she is capable of.

The story is short and fun, so it doesn't require a huge time investment with our busy crazy life. But it's just enough to give you a fun taste, a little escape to a new story. I did want it to be a bit longer, to have more time to develop the characters and their quirks. But it feels like the series will progress with more of that. This is just the beginning.

The audiobook narration was wonderful. A great voice, pacing, and performance by Stephanie Nemeth-Parker. She brings the characters to life with her voices and portrayal, and is very pleasant to listen to. I'm going to have to look up more audiobooks narrated by her.

Fun, snarky!

It’s a fun, snarky grim reaper tale! Ellis is a charming and entertaining main character. I loved all the humor. Mr. Sparky often made me laugh & I loved how Ellis put it to good use. The pace is fast and the action plentiful.

I have a weakness for grim reaper stories and this tale doesn’t disappoint. Even though Ellis is only a brand new reaper with next to no training, she makes up for it with good intentions and determination. She was tossed into this but she’ll make a good go of it.

The side characters are fun too. They are a mix of other supernatural characters. Obviously, some are evil and some are good – but there are also those that are devious. I really enjoyed the cat and mouse game that carried through right to the final few scenes of the book.

I was left wanting a bit more at the end of the book. The plot was a little predictable but still fun. 4/5 stars.

The Narration: Stephanie Nemeth-Parker had the perfect voice for Ellis – young, snarky, confident. I also liked her voices for the various supernatural beings, though there was one that I think was supposed to be a hag or someone with a bit of cackle to her voice but it sounded more like a grandmother being too sweet. Her male character voices sounded masculine. The pacing was perfect & there were no technical issues with the recording. 4.5/5 stars.

I received a free copy of this book. My opinions are 100% my own.
