Story
Finding a good roommate through a classified ad isn’t as easy as it sounds. I was starting to lose hope. Until a knock at my door came, and God answered my prayers. Except...uh...wrong prayer, God. I’d definitely requested the big guy find me a drop-dead gorgeous man on more than one occasion...just not as my roommate. Declan Tate talked me into interviewing him anyway. While he was amusing and charismatic, I wouldn’t have been comfortable living with a man, so I regretfully declined. Then, cupcakes showed up at my door.

Robert Westfall's life is falling apart - everywhere but in math class. That's the one place where problems always have a solution. But in the world beyond high school, his father is terminally ill, his mother is squabbling with his interfering aunts, his boyfriend is unsupportive, and the career path that's been planned for him feels less appealing by the day. Robert's math teacher, Andrew McNelin, watches his best student floundering, concerned but wary of crossing the line between professional and personal. Gradually, Andrew becomes Robert's friend, then his confidante.

Publisher's Summary
A woman struggling. A new job. More than she ever thought she'd find.
Widowed with four young children, Nancy was left broken beyond words. She's struggled to rebuild her life and herself, so she and the kids can move on. But she never thought about meeting someone new. How could she love anyone without betraying the husband she lost fighting for their country?
Thorne has been teaching for years. He loves his job, but doesn't take time for much else. In the first week of school, a new teacher started in the classroom across the hall. She's not the usual fresh out of school, 23-year-old teacher they usually get at Blackjack High. She’s older, and the sadness in her eyes speaks to him, but he can tell she's not ready for anything but friendship.
Can Nancy and Thorne make it through the tangle of emotions trying to keep them apart?

Awesome sweet story! Loved it!
Risking It All is a fantastic audiobook that anyone would love! It’s such a sweet story of two people that are so very perfect for each other and the journey to their HEA! Nancy’s been widowed for two years raising her four amazing kids and has just started a teaching job. Thorne notices the new English teacher across from his Math class and goes over to introduce himself and welcome her. He notices an uneasiness along with something else...he feels drawn to her and decides to slowly earn her trust and hopefully her friendship. Nancy and Thorne are both very strong interesting and extremely sweet characters! I loved Thorne’s kindness and sensitive consideration to Nancy. The way he eases himself into her life, including the sincere and believable interaction with her kids. I really enjoyed this audiobook and thought narrator Bump Turgeson did a fantastic job bringing this deliciously sweet story to life! I recommend this one to anyone looking for an awesome sweet romance!

This is a sweet story. The two main characters are nice and her kids are the greatest. This is them just getting to become friends with the possibility of more. It is easy to listen to and there isnt any drama. I did listen to this on audio. Bump Turgeson does a good job reading this.

Sweet, Gentle Story
This is the kind of story that you open up when you want to slow down and unwind a bit. It's a sweet romance involving a widow with four (bless her heart!) young children and probably the most patient man on earth.
Nancy finds herself beginning her career as a teacher a little later than most. But then, most mothers of four young children don't suddenly decide they're going to become teachers. Thorne teaches across the hall, and is intrigued by the new teacher, who seems to have a few walls built up around her. He makes it his mission to become her friend, and in so doing develops a deep respect for her strength, as well as a passion for the amazing woman she is. But Thorne realizes that any relationship they may build will need to be on Nancy's timetable, not his. He proves to be a warm and compassionate man as he develops a meaningful relationship with both Nancy and her family, allowing them to accept him on their terms. He's a smart man--he wants more from her, but recognizes that patience is key.
This story is definitely a slow burn sort of read. But if you're looking to escape from the grind of the world for a bit, this is a good choice. Thorne is a beautiful soul. Nancy is also a wonderful character--sweet, warm, strong, rebuilding her family and herself. The reader will find almost no graphic language in the story (I recall only one curse word), and the steamy scenes are more of the sweet fade-to-black variety. It all renews the soul like chicken soup to a timid stomach.

Sweet
Risking It All is an excellent addition to the Highland County Heroes. This time the story focuses on two fellow teachers finding love. Nancy, a military widow with four young children, struggles to find her footing again and settling into a new teaching job. Thorne, a teacher from across the hall, is intrigued by Nancy. This is a beautifully written story of second chances and romance. The characters are well-rounded, real, and genuine. Bump Turgeon's narration is excellent and much better than the previous book. Overall, I enjoyed this audiobook, and strongly recommend it. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Very sweet!
Not all heroes are in uniform. Some are quietly teaching mathematics in the classroom across the hall. Or so Nancy discovers when she starts her new job as a high school English teacher.
Nancy, mother of 4 kids under the age of 10, recently widowed, needed a friend more than a lover. Despite his instant attraction to her, Thorne realises that fact from the start and steps in as the very best kind of friend. Seriously wow... his personality is amazing but his maturity is off the charts! I absolutely loved the natural and realistic dynamics between the two as they face their own insecurities and grow their friendship.
This audiobook is heavy on the sweetness, feel-good factor. And I love that Melissa Stevens made this wonderful, ordinary, mathematics teacher a hero because he certainly was one!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Love this series?
Melissa Stevens! She is not new to me, I had the pleasure of listening to her motorcycle series. When I saw the Highland County Heroes out on audio, I grabbed them, and it’s so good! Risking it All is book 5 of the series, but each one is a standalone and each hero is yummy! Thorne is the teacher across the hall from the new hire, Nancy. This is Nancy’s first job as a teacher, and can use all the support she can get. Widowed with 4 children, she has her hands full, and Thorne is at her side. But she isn’t ready to delve into a new relationship is she? Will Thorne love her and her children? Will this mean she no longer loves her husband? I loved this story for the family feeling it gave me. Not only does Stevens add in some humor with Thorne’s family names, but she lets us get to know Nancy’s kids, fall in love with them and take her journey to letting go, learning to love and trust and find that new normal. Nancy is easy to relate to. Her fears are realistic, she has a lot to take on and her loss is real. Thorne is amazing. He is the man we look for, loving Nancy’s kids and letting us enjoy that slow burn between them. It’s sweet and entertaining and the perfect hero in Highland County.
Bump Turgeson continues his narration of this series. I am enjoying his voices and find he relates to the characters in a way that flows through in his performance. He makes the story entertaining.
