Publisher's summary

From USA Today Bestselling Author Devney Perry comes a single dad, second chance rock star romance

From the moment Quinn Montgomery sat behind her first snare and cymbal set, she was destined for fame and glory. As Hush Note’s infamous female drummer, she sets the rhythm for the band’s chart-toppings hits. When people tap their feet to their music, it’s to her pulse.

Quinn is content to live in a world away from her family and the cage of her youth. Her only regret is leaving Graham Hayes behind without a goodbye. No matter how many sold-out stadiums she plays, no matter how many crowds sing her songs, his voice haunts her when the music stops.

When a family tragedy forces her to return home to Montana, she plans to leave the second she’s paid her respects. But seeing Graham again turns her life upside down. As a boy, he wasn’t able to make her stay. As a man, he might be her future.

If they can mend their rifts and find solace in the refrains.

How could anyone judge Her?

Her man and family are total A$$holes. Seriously like let’s not support her AT ALL, shun her, KNOW that they’re a$$holes themselves but yet still harbor some internal anger towards the heroine?? After she tried to reach out also??? I just can’t. I get the last chance trope, it’s written well, but nothing especially magnificent.

Amazing writing and story. I want to be a part of this couple. I felt their love hopes and dreams. I was carried away into this world.

Rifts & Refrains

Quinn left behind her hometown, family, and her only regret, Graham, to become the drummer for the popular band Hush Note. When family tragedy hits, she is forced to return to Montana to pay her respects. Quinn returns home to a cold welcome from her family and Graham which causes her to see everything she has missed out on. Not wanting to miss out on anymore she is determined to mend all of the rifts and refrain from returning to the past.

I smiled, laughed and even shed a tear during this amazingly emotional story from Devney Perry. I loved the meddling the families, including Quinn's dead grandma, did to push them back together. Colin was quite the little burst of energy that made you feel exhausted after his little bursts in and out of the story.

I highly recommend this story to everyone especially if second chance romance is your kryptonite as it is slowly becoming mine.

Rifts & Refrains (Hush Note #2) is a second chance rockstar romance from Devney Perry that can be read as a standalone or as part of the series.

Audio: Another great read by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell. I especially have come to love Joe's impressions of kids as he gets so energetic.

Long-winded

The story was okay but my god, I got so tired of the MC's internal dialogue. Seemed to take an eternity to reach the conclusion. I ended up speeding up the audio significantly.

Just meh…

3.5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

This was my first book by this Author so I didn’t really know what to expect. I can say I did enjoyed it, but if I had to be honest there were characters that I felt dragged on so that is why my rating is only 3.5 stars.

This was a second chance romance and I normally find these kind of books to be meh since the always remind me to much of a insta-love romance and I’m not a huge fan of those.

However, I did like both MC’s and found them both to be equally equal. No man whore, no ow/om drama and no celibacy while separated. Honestly I would say this was overall a sweet romance where both Characters were still in love with each other after all the years they were apart.

This was a slow burn so when the sex scenes finally happened between h and H it was just okay nothing exciting to write about. I really didn’t feel much chemistry between the two of them. This also was the second book in Hush Note series but, can be read as a stand-alone. I did not read the first book so maybe that was some of the reason I couldn’t connect with Quinn.

Audiobook Review: Maxine Mitchell and Joe Arden did a great job narrating Rifts & Refrains

Second chance, small town, single dad, rockstar heroine!

Rifts and Refrains is part of the Hush Note standalone series, there are 3 books in the series written by different authors following the band Hush Note. I am obsessed with Devney Perry and have been reading all of her books lately so I had to jump right into hers!

Quinn is the female, Grammy-award winning drummer of the band Hush Note. She left home when she was 18 and hasn’t looked back, or been back since. The story starts off with her receiving news that her beloved grandmother, the only person she continued to stay in touch with, has passed away. She leaves the band and heads back to small town Montana for the funeral and comes face-to-face with her ex-boyfriend, Graham, at the airport. Graham and Quinn have so much history: they were high school sweethearts, they lived next door to one another growing up, he has always been her brother’s best friend, and 9 years ago when Quinn left town she left Graham behind too.

Graham is now a single dad to his 7-year-old son Colin and runs a home construction company with Quinn’s brother. While realizing she has so much to learn about Graham again, Quinn also has to make amends with her family. She hasn’t spoken to her father in the 9 years since she left home, she always felt like her pastor father was embarrassed of the choices she made in life (showing off skin with her clothes, being a drummer in a rock band), her sister is still upset with her leaving and never looking back, and she just met her nieces and nephews for the first time. One of her Gran’s last wishes was for Quinn and Graham to play together at her funeral, so the exes start spending time together and realize not all of their feelings were left in the past…

I loved this second chance romance, so much longing! All of the history between Quinn and Graham made it so good and angsty. I loved seeing Quinn connect and bond with Graham’s son, Colin. He is a fan of Quinn and her band and even plays the drums too, I loved seeing her practice and teach him. This is the type of music/rockstar romance I enjoy, not the flashy concerts and tour life, but seeing a character with musical talent/abilities living their life and enjoying their craft.

Would not lay on audible

Bought the book showed in my library but would not play. would only go between library list and the pic of book and banner that says "in hour library. I am finding that many of the books in my library are. not accessible for listening. I am not happy to have purchased over600 titles and not be able to listen to MANY of them.

So much better!

This book was so much better than the first one! I am glad I stuck it out and read on. Narrators were a better fit, story line better put together, not as choppy really enjoyed the story!! Looking forward to the last book of the series.

Awsome

Well the only thing I can say is as much as I loved the first book in this trilogy. This story was even better and I didn't think it could be. Devney out did herself in bringing Quinn to life on these pages. This story gives you EVERYTHING. Our narrators who are always fantastic.... couldn't have been more perfect in these roles. I wish that there was a way to give this book and audio 10 stars. Enjoy this fantastic story...you won't be disappointed.
