Publisher's Summary

Ever since being stuck with the job of pythia, the chief seer of the supernatural world, Cassie Palmer has been playing catch up. Catch up to the lifetime's worth of training she missed being raised by a psychotic vampire instead of at the fabled pythian court. Catch up to the powerful, and sometimes seductive, forces trying to mold her to their will. It's been a trial by fire that has left her more than a little burned.

But now she realizes that all that was just the warm up for the real race. Ancient forces that once terrorized the world are trying to return, and Cassie is the only one who can stop them....

Never-Ending Slog!!

I don't know what happened with this book. I took me over a month to get through. Narrator didn't help but the story line was weak and repetitive. It consisted off, ''Traveling back in time to save Pritkin, getting chased, getting in trouble, getting beat up or thrown around, panicking, getting shoved back to her own time, rinse, repeat'' for 90% of the book. I seriously took naps while listening to this book and missed nothing. By this time I would expect Cassie to be getting a handle on her power and be half-way competent. But she's still reacting to everything and everyone. I understand she's under a lot of stress but by the second or third time the Past Pythias keep showing up to stop her, she should start planning for it!! Instead she keeps bumbling along.

I hope the next book is more streamlined, some actual plot happens (we got a nice cliffhanger at the end of this book) and Cassie actually puts what she's learned to use!!

Can’t get bad narration

I can’t stand this narrator. I’m sure he book is good. All the rest were, but this narrator has a strange accent and pronounces words in a way that’s makes me cringe. I gave up. I wish publishers would realize how much a bad narrator can destroy a great novel. I’m done. Can’t listen anymore

The third narrator but same events as before...

This is book 8 in the Cassie Palmer series. I really like the series but I am having some issues with it. First let's talk about character development. Cassie is our lead but she has developed the least of anyone in the book. She hasn't gained any more control of her powers... She hasn't learned any physical tactics... she hasn't had an "aha" moment on whose pulling the strings... she is the same exact Cassie from book 1. At this point, it makes her come off as incompetent.

Then we have the timing of the book. From book 1 to book 8 it seems only about 4 months have passed. Really? I've been binging these books and even I feel that more time should have gone by that that.

I feel things are getting a bit repetitive. Once again Cassie is still trying to save Pritkin... Cassie is constantly naked or without shoes... Cassie barely makes it back when she travels to the past... again, it's book 8 lets wrap this up...

Another thing is this authors need to put characters from other books in her novel. I mean it's ok to mention them... but she goes so far as to make Merlin a main character, travels to Camelot, and putting her own spins on events that happened. Now if this was a remake then go for it. But this is a completely different story... what's t he point. Come up with your own characterrs and make it more original.

I truly dislike the use of these famous people of the past being used in this fashion. Rafael is a vampire. Wouldn't he be super famous if not rich? He still could paint even if he used a different name. She also uses Casanova as a pretty main character. And now with this book, I feel it's gone overboard. Stop the madness.

What I'd like for the next book is for Cassie to grow a backbone. There was a spark when Cassie denies Mircea a series request, but I have a feeling she will flop. I have high hopes for the Cassie Palmer series and I want it to continue just not to repeat over and over again.

Thankfully there wasn't another narrator change. The audio version is on narrator number 3. It's funny because the first narrator was the best one. Now I'd be happy to just keep the same one.

except for some scrapes, this would have 5 stars.

The story was good, the reader was terrific. The engineering was what messed it up. A couple of places had sentence repeats, but even worse were the places that sounded stretched or scratched. That was annoying and difficult to understand.

need to read other books<br />

the description says nothing about other books, but this is like book 9. Very confusing if you haven't read previous books. Not a stand alone. Everytime I think I know who/what everyone is, the author adds chapters that deal with other people who we don't know anything about and doesn't pertain with story. Jumps around and doesn't tell you were your at, have to figure it out. Characters sound kinda interesting, but not enough to buy the other books.

My heart 💔 Broke

Great book, but my heart broke when the love interest said what he did. I expected more out of him, and yet he showed himself to be worst than Tony, because at least Tony was honest about being how selfish he is. I mean I get what he did. I get why he did it. However, that does not mean I do not understand the type pain he caused Cassy. And what he did at the end was deplorable. I think she would have always went back and rescued his wife, because she loved him, and you do that for the people you love when you can. Now, I will always remember him in a negative light. I wonder how I will see him in the dory series now?

Start at the beginning...

So I didn’t realize that this book was part of a series and just bought it on a whim. Once I realized it was the most current book in the series, it made so much more sense lol. However it was a fun fast passed ride even without knowing the story up until now. I was able to follow it but I’m sure I didn’t get all the hidden jokes or under tones. I wasn’t as emotionally invested in a particular party for her to end up with either but I found that I kind of liked that since I’m not one for drama or love triangles. The action was great and I felt bad for the heroine, wishing she could just get a day of rest. It’s a long book but it keeps you entertained and wanting to know how it ends. There is a cliff hanger at the end and I’ll probably be getting the next book when it comes out to see where the story goes.

Action Packed

Cassie was given painful insights about her relationship with Mircha which helped her save her life. We learned more about Pritkin. The ultimate battle took place with characters from many generations involbed. Loved it

Loved listening! The book was amazing as always!

This was another great book by Karen Chance! The story line was great and finally a resolution to a problem that has been going on for multiple books! I felt like this one had a little more adult language and content than previous books on the series, but still enjoyed the overall story! Narrator did a great job with the exception of some male voices in the beginning (these smoothed out towards the end). Looking forward to the next book!
