The vampires aren’t the only ones out for blood.

I’m not just a vampire slayer. I’m a witch-shifter hybrid with a vengeance, and I’m crazy enough to crash the most feared vampire nest on my own to save my sister.

But the vamps are already a step ahead of me. When they capture me, I’m forced to fight another shifter to the death for their sick entertainment.

No one holds me prisoner and gets away with it. I’ll do whatever it takes to free my sister and kill the vampires...even if it means losing everything I hold dear.

I wish I could say I liked this book. The first couple of books in the series led me to believe this series had potential. The author must have gotten some bad advice to make this a 4 part series because this book was terrible and was filled with so much main character self doubt and loathing, the story got lost.

I don’t think that I can post enough reviews or complain about it enough, but I see a trend for these YA paranormal where the author turns the main female character into a pathetic, whiney self-absorbed, I know everything idiot making wrong decision after wrong decision. Ray is not a badass. She doesn’t get the meaning of a badass. Now, about this book. It was awful.

All the decisions the main character makes are obvious to everyone and wrong ones.

The vampire island was laughable. The way they describe what goes on Gregor Island makes it sound ridiculous rather than a vampire island. The slaves have all day to themselves and they are given all the food they could want and booze with no adults around to stop them.

Instead of being badass, it’s more like Ray gets lucky. The main villain is an idiot and you question how he lived that long. He isn’t a villain but instead an overgrown self-absorbed brat.

Also, how does she not know what will happen when she breaks the spell but others do?

And when Ray hurts people because of her decisions, is constantly filled with self doubt, whining about hopelessness, and going on and on about her losses, she just appears weak. Then, all of a sudden the friends and family forgive her and rally behind her. As a reader, I am not sure why they believed in her again, I lost faith in her a long time ago and that is what makes this a bad story.

The end of the book is just… ridiculous. The author tried to tie what happened in the last pages (40 min on Audible) to hints given throughout, but it was rushed and horribly written. There is no other way to say it.

One more book and if it wasn’t free, I’d never buy it. This series had so much potential and probably won’t even listen to book 4 as I no longer care.

Narrator: Narrator was ok and did a decent job with male voices. Character voices were unique enough to follow along. Narrator did get a little too excited in this book to the point of being annoying, but I do not think narrators fault and instead the writing. I would listen again to narrator.

Main character no longer likable
