If you lost both your spouse and your dog to cancer within weeks of each other, but you were sadder about the dog, would you tell anyone? Maybe your closest friends. Unfortunately, Jane Bailey's closest friends are on the other side of the country. That's where Jane plans to go now that she's free to leave Philadelphia, the too cold, beachless, street taco-deficient city her husband dragged her to six years ago. But with no job prospects in her hometown of San Diego, Jane is roped into helping out temporarily at her uncle's southwestern small-town B&B. En route to her new role as innkeeper and breakfast chef, she finds a stray at a rest stop. With her heart in pieces from the loss of her dog, she's determined not to let this mutt worm its way into her affections. She's also determined to have next-to-no interaction with the B&B's irritating guests, and the even more annoying handyman who lives next door. Can Jane keep her sanity - and her secret that she's not really a grieving widow - while trying to achieve her dream of getting back to the place she thinks is home? Fans of Lolly Winston's Good Grief will enjoy Rescue Me, Maybe.

A number of twists and turns make this story believable. She misses her dog loss more than her husband. On way to her move to San Diego, she rescues and adopts a dog.

Enjoyed this book of girl ablnd her dogs

Don't be misled by the slightly stilted sounding narration at the beginning. I almost gave up on this story and turned it off, but stick with it, you'll appreciate the subtlety!

A heartwarming story of the bond between a woman and a dog. No matter what happens in life, a dog just makes life a lot easier to get through. A definite plus to add to your collection. 😀 ("")("")

A book about loss and recovery. About what we start out doing in life suddenly taking us in an entirely different direction. A good story with a strong female character. She has some rough edges but slowly begins to loose her cynicism as life changes for her.
Funny and often touching without the melodramatic. Yes, there is a good looking guy she meets but this is not a romance novel. This is how a person finds her strengths from inside her and not from the salvation of an outside source.
Full of many cute, annoying, colorful and ispirational characters. Also some flying muffins. A good listen from a good narrator. Oh and of course there is the dog...........

Not Your Typical Dog Novel

I loved the book cover - who can resist a cute puppy! Unfortunately, Jane (35+) loved dogs but not herself. She felt guilty about falling out of love with his husband, as if she could control her emotions. Jane didn't have an affair, or do anything unforgiveable, so I was annoyed when she constantly beat herself up.

The author wrote an intriguing plot with some very cute & humorous moments, interesting secondary characters and multiple endearing canines. If only Jane possessed some confidence and self-respect; she didn't have the courage to express her true feelings. I had a hard time enjoying this book since I couldn't relate to Jane's passive attitude.
