Publisher's Summary
Read by award-winning narrator Ray Porter
In New York Times bestselling author Jonathan Maberry's thrilling Relentless, Rogue Team International joins Joe Ledger in a new hunt that spans the globe and journeys deep into the terrifying landscape of the human heart.
JOE LEDGER’s world has been torn apart. The people closest to him have been savagely murdered and Ledger is on the hunt for the killers. His already fragile psyche has cracked apart, allowing a dangerous darkness to overwhelm him.
His hunt takes him deep into the world of the deadly black market weapons sales, and standing in his way are a new generation of private military contractors. These mercenaries have been enhanced with cutting-edge cybernetics and chemical enhancements, transforming them into real-world super soldiers. Stronger, faster, harder to hurt, and fitted with built-in weapons. They are beyond anything Joe has ever faced.
But he is not the Joe Ledger they expected to fight. He is defined by the Darkness now. The attempt to destroy him—to break him—has backfired. Instead his enemies have turned him into a far more fearsome weapon.
Everyone is out for blood.

So Damned Amazing
Hoo Ahh! Joe Ledger returns with The Darkness, to take the hunt for Kuga and Santoro and bringing the death and pain to anyone who aligned with them. Joe, in all his fractured spirit and soul, is ready for blood. I loved this book so much, now with Ray Porter's amazing voice bringing this book to life, and it makes it feel so much more real, like you hear the pain and hurt in Ray's voice like the entire story is a full reflection of Joe's heart as it is right after losing his family. 10/10 a very welcome and loved continuation of The Joe Ledger universe and of the book Rage

What Happened to Jonathan Maberry?
Never in a million years did I think I would ever type this. I am a MASSIVE Joe Ledger fan, and a Jonathan Maberry Fan. This audiobook is so so so so so boring. I could not believe it, it drags on and on and on. What is up Jonathan, maybe COVID isolation affected your creativity, I don't know. I pray the new books are back on track, as I always buy Joe Ledger books the second they are available and can't wait to listen......This one was just too painful to get through.....

Disappointed
Although all of the Ledger books have political overtones this one was just a blatant podium for left wing propaganda.
The story had some potential with the revenge motif. But, how the help did Bolton and Santoro escape from the Black Site prison.
So many disappointing things in this book. I have been on board since book one. I will buy the next one but, if it's anything like this one it will be my last.

Wait if you like resolution.
While this may be the longest book in the series this book is too short. 1/4 to 1/3 of the book is used to set up some future battle. Only about half of the plot points are in resolved. All of the “big bads” are paper tigers that cause no damage to “Marty Stu”.

Another great one
At the end of the previous book, Rage, the twist at the end actually “took my breath away “. I was stunned. And I was beyond anxious to get to the next in the series because- what happened?! Joe’s family could not all be gone! What a long wait it felt like to get to this one.
As always Ray Porter IS Joe. He IS Church, & Toys, & Bug, & Top and on and on. He is oh so talented.
I enjoyed this book as I’ve enjoyed the series. It takes a different turn, focusing on Joe’s “solo” trek. I found that I really missed the team scenes. The humor and interaction that would lighten the mood a bit from those aspects of the story is an important part that I was hoping to find. This is far more intense of a story. It also felt as though there may have been just a few too many different locations/scenes etc so it was missing consistency. But overall it was another winner from JM and RP.

Once my favorite author now not so much
Up to this installment, I would have called this my favorite series hands down. While it not not be a big deal to most, Maberry has taken to using outdated harmful references to autism as well as combining autistic with faggot for a groovy new insult. WTHF? Disappointment doesn't come close to expressing myself on his latest piece of work. I'll finish the book only to get a total on spectrum disparagement then I'm returning it.

Another fantastic book... Dark, bloody, worrisome, and perfect. I listened to it while recovering from surgery in the hospital and freaked a few nurses out in parts lol... But a bloody good (even if heart-rending) story and closure to some open loops.

Consistently awesome
Hard to do this justice without any spoilers. Threads that have been developing for years are coming together, characters I love threatened, characters I love to hate getting theirs, a character exit rivalling the best one in Indiana Jones (you’ll know it when you read it). Can’t recommend this series highly enough. Narration, as ever perfect from Ray Porter, gives characters real identity with subtle accents and mannerisms that never take you out of the moment.
If you haven’t listened to this series, then grab Patient Zero, I envy what you’ve got coming :) if you’ve gotten as far as relentless, then this is what you’ve been waiting for since ‘that Christmas’ and you’re buying it anyway!

Decent enough yarn but excruciatingly long-winded
I'm determined to get to the end, but it's hard work. The story itself isn't without interest, but there're at least twice as many words as there need to be, so there's no pace and far too much padding. You get a little action or some significant plot, and then yet another longueur. Honestly, on the whole, it's just boring.
I've long since lost interest, but the app says there's another eight hours to go...!

Brilliant edition to the Joe Ledger world
Being a long term fan of both Jonathan Maberry and his brilliant creation Joe Ledger I have be waiting with baited breath for the new chapter in the series, and to say I was not disappointed would be a huge understatement - a excellent fast moving story that doesn't skimp on outstanding characters and nail bitting situations, would recommend to anyone who likes action stories with characters that aren't cardboard cutouts but are sculpted to be interesting, a great story.

This newest book in this series did not disappoint. I found myself trying to eek out the length of it by not listening too long at once but it just made me think about listening to it until I picked it up again.
The action is literally non stop. The characters are everything you want them to be...fun and super tough for me. I loved the story and no doubt I will listen again very soon but I'm now eagerly waiting for the next!
