New York Times best seller

From the best-selling author of Dark Matter and the Wayward Pines trilogy comes a relentless thriller about time, identity, and memory - his most mind-boggling, irresistible work to date, and the inspiration for Shondaland’s upcoming Netflix film.

"Gloriously twisting...a heady campfire tale of a novel." (The New York Times Book Review)

Named one of the Best Books of the Year by Time • NPR • BookRiot

Reality is broken.

At first, it looks like a disease. An epidemic that spreads through no known means, driving its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived. But the force that’s sweeping the world is no pathogen. It’s just the first shock wave, unleashed by a stunning discovery - and what’s in jeopardy is not our minds but the very fabric of time itself.

In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth - and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery...and the tools for fighting back.

Together, Barry and Helena will have to confront their enemy - before they, and the world, are trapped in a loop of ever-growing chaos.

Time travel dystopian fire. Couldn’t put it down! Sad I’m finished with it. I also loved Dark Matter & now wondering if I should read wayward pines...

Brilliant story with intriguing ideas, great characters, a lot of plot twists, and excellent narration.

Blake Crouch at his best!

Great narration and overall the story is interesting. The ending is a big let down.

Vague spoiler alert: A major rule of the time traveling mechanic introduced at the beginning of the story is completely retconned for a very Deus ex machina ending.

Terrible ending

Thank you Mr. Crouch for a profound and satisfying listen. Pardon the profanity but that was a total mindf**k of a story. Satisfying with the attention to scientific detail while gratifying my speculative open mind to the infinite possibilities. Again, thank you. Ad infifitum.

Good book.

And I’ve listened to A LOT. I’ve already listened to it twice through. Two more words required…

This may be my new favorite male author! So many twists and turns. It reminded me of the back and forth of 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle (which I also loved.) Well Done!

Dark Matter was excellent. Recursion was very good. I enjoy Mr Crouch's stories so far. I may have to check out the Wayward Pines series too. He gets deep into the science of the "Memory Chair" and space and time, but it does not deter the enjoyment of the story if you have no idea what the science means. You just simply enjoy it. And so far, Crouch leaves a little mystery at the end. Not a giant one, but a little one. It's sweet actually.

The story makes you think, what would happen if I chose X instead of Y? Dated Joe instead of Mike? How would my life have turned out? It is much deeper than that. More a saving of the world after a terrible thing has been leashed upon it. The trouble is, you do remember those choices you made at the specific point of convergence of the timeline. If you don't understand that, don't worry, you will. Bottom line, I really enjoyed this book. Looking forward to other works by this author.

Both Narrators were very very good.

what is time? what are memories? how are they connected? follow Barry and Helena as they set off to find out just how deep the rabbit hole goes.

I loved this book! Science fiction, thriller, mystery, and a little bit of a love story- this book has it all! The narrators are great; specifically the male narrator you’ll thoroughly enjoy listening to. The whole concept of traveling through space and time combined with the various information on physics made it believable, and it’s clear that the author knows his stuff in that department. I was engrossed the entire time, staying up way past bedtime to finish the book.
