Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before

The audiobook of Reaper Man is narrated by the BAFTA award-winning actor Sian Clifford (Fleabag; Vanity Fair; Quiz). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

'Inside every living person is a dead person waiting to get out.'

Death has been fired by the Auditors of Reality for the heinous crime of developing...a personality. Sent to live like everyone else, Death takes a new name and begins working as a farmhand. He's got the scythe already, after all.

And for humanity, Death is just...gone. Which leads to the kind of chaos you always get when an important public service is withdrawn. If Death doesn't come for you, then what are you supposed to do in the meantime?

You can't have the undead wandering about like lost souls-there's no telling what might happen. Particularly when they discover that life really is only for the living...

The Discworld novels can be listened to in any order, but Reaper Man is the second book in the Death series.

The first book in the Discworld series-The Colour of Magic-was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

As always Terry pratchett is funny, whimsical, thoughtful, and philosophical all at once. I just thought this was one of Is best endings. I’m so grateful that audible added a rich audio production

Stunning and so heartwarming

How one bounces back from getting sacked from your job tells you a lot about yourself. For Death, he was shocked, maybe a bit sad. He has never done anything wrong, but still, he got fired. But then, he realized, he got the time of his life.

This is a beautiful story of growth and acceptance. Death becomes a new person, and so does Windle Poons, literally. Death becomes Bill Door, a sharecropper of sorts, and Windle Poons accidentally becomes a zombie. They both meet interesting and wonderful new people, and they help out those they can. They lost something, but they both gained new friendships. Maybe, it’s one of the best examples of how he can bounce back from a loss. The grieving time is needed, but once we have, oh, the wonderful things we can experience.

Reaper Man Review

The story is unique for me. I loved the presentation of people's beliefs and the anathropomorphism of all things mankind thinks of. Especially when the person is young and innocent. It's a fun gift people have, sometimes burdensome. However, isn’t it a necessary component that empathy may spring from?

There are, though, the reversal of this where mankind is at it's most evil, especially the powerful. Those who lust for that which is not theirs, seeking to transform the concept of others existence in preparation to stealing the true lives of others. This is a case of pure evil, the evil power of governments, ruling classes and driven groups using propaganda as an antipromorphic. Governments do this to justify murder and torture and depravity.

In the face of such erasure, anthropomorphism can seem almost virtuous. We should see ourselves in all manner of others!

Quite uplifting

Well done on characterizations and keeping with the intent, the humor is wonderfully dry and well delivered.

Lovely storytelling!

As the Nigel Planer. Had to give it a try, and it was a nice change of pace, but… planer just had the perfect voice for it.

Almost as good

out of all 12 books so far Windle Poons is my absolute favorite character. this book made me feel so many emotions and I had a good think after I listened to it... Death is really amazing and an absolutely wonderful character. he's more human than you'd think and he's very just and fair, and the fact that he let the Death of Rats & the Death of Fleas live just goes to show that even Death needs someone to relate to.

Windle Poons is my favorite.

When DEATH is forced into early retirement, he is finally able to understand what it is like to be mortal. In my opinion this is certainly the saddest Discworld novel, but still one of my favorites.

Death takes a holiday

I don’t want to spoil anything, but just characters that are actually good and do good things having adventures and experiencing life and death. Funny and heartwarming. All the stars for Terry.

Wonderful ending to a great story.
