Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Story
Carl was a regular construction foreman. Not the worst, not the best, and definitely not the thinnest. Even so, he didn't deserve that heart attack! He really didn't deserve being reborn into a dog-eat-dog world as a dragon. To be fair, it’s nice to be at the top of the food chain. Now Carl just needs to learn how magic works, which monsters are safe to eat, and why his hoard is so important to him. Dealing with change is hard enough, but he has enemy dragons incoming, hostile environments, and foes constantly trying to get bragging rights by taking down a dragon.

Publisher's Summary
The homecoming was short lived. Some might conclude that four ships, three women, and an unruly teenage daughter would constitute a happy ending. But dangerous forces still move in circles around Benjamin, his family, and friends. Word had arrived foretelling the prospects for peace and a first job for the fledgling Reaper Inc. Family in tow, locked and loaded, they leave for parts unknown to aid in securing peace and safety for the people of the Colonial Alliance.
But when someone is out to kill you or eat you, making it there alive might be all you could hope for.

Done with this series and author
Really? They turned Ben's character into a useless henpecked man who is being manipulated from every side. I really liked Ben's character in the first book and was waiting for the second but I am beyond annoyed at the turn this story took especially in regards to Ben's character. What is the point of a main character whos main characteristic is being drunk and angry for the entire book and then having things constantly taken away from him while being a pawn in everyone elses games and having everyone he believed was an ally be constantly upset with him?
I am done with this series and author. There are millions of books out there, I am going to find one where being a main character actually means something instead of wasting my time and credits on garbage.

Good story, Good narrator, a bit broken
The story is good but the author has issues with continuity in this book, too much jumping around and light on details at some points really makes things hard to follow

Great potential.
I like the book easy to read and makes you want to come back for more. The problem is I feel like the author is jumping around to much I dont even know what the book is about any more. It started out as him rejoining his team which we have seen lil to none of in 2 books and then he was starting his own business but now he has droped his old team completely and is doing idk what.

WTF was that CRAP
Book 1 set up a good story, which failed on book 2.
A guy gets a lucky break, which is diminished by political BS.
(typical in real life, but not appropriate in fiction.)
I found myself constantly saying "GET ON WITH IT!"
While the storyline continued to go from one sub-standard level to another.
A lot of people are mentioning a lack of editing and proof-reading. Given Jeff Bezos' need for monopoly, you can imagine he exploits child-labour laws of other countries to get more content published quicker. Yes, the editing feels like it was done by a poorly educated 13 year old.
I don't like giving Amazon money, due to it's lack of privacy that it shares with governments, but you don't get a choice these days for where to get audiobooks.
I will try book three to see if it redeems itself, and if that's OK, then I will skip to book 5, knowing that .....like book 2...... book 4 will just be lazy writing.
overall.... book 2 sucks.
