Publisher's Summary

I never planned on going back to Hung Island, Georgia. Ever.

I was a top-notch Were agent for the secret paranormal Council and happily living in Chicago, where I had everything I needed - a gym membership, season tickets to the Cubs, and Dwayne - my gay Vampyre best friend. Going back now would mean facing the reason I'd left, and I'd rather chew my own paw off than deal with Hank. Hank the Tank Wilson was the six-foot-three, obnoxious, egotistical, perfect-assed, best-sex-of-my-life Werewolf who cheated on me and broke my heart. At the time I did what any rational woman would do. I left in the middle of the night with a suitcase, big plans, and enough money for a one-way bus ticket to freedom. I vowed to never return. But here I am, trying to wrap my head around what has happened to some missing Weres without wrapping my body around Hank. I hope I don't have to eat my words and my paw.

This novella originally appeared in the Three Southern Beaches collection released in July 2014. This is an extended version of that story.

.

I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one. I like Hollie Jackson's narration; her deeper voice to match the characters were well. The story was filled with a little mystery, quirky and witty humor, a little romance, action, and my favorite paranormal types. I'll be binging these books.

What a hoot.

Loved this story. It has it all. It will make you laugh out loud. It might be short but it is worth it. Dysfunctional families, mean girls and mates oh my! Enjoy the short fast ride.

Warning... you will laugh ... a lot!

This book will keep you laughing. the characters are interesting to say the least. everything from a stripper Grandma to a gay vampire friend. They are a riot as they go on the mission find th missing girls.

Hollow does a great job on the voices and never misses a beat. Her inflection is awesome and fits right with the characters. sometimes you forget it's just one person doing the voices. loved it!

Funny Stars

I really enjoyed this book, it was different and I really didn't know what to expect.

I loved the narration I wasn't expecting her to be so alive and fun to listen to.

I will be continuing this series!

Good start, especially for a short story

Any additional comments?

Often, I find short stories to be lacking - missing character and plot development. While Ready to Were was not rich in either, I felt like it was a pretty solid foundation and I am interested enough to want to read more. I am a little wary, or perhaps were-y, of the ending because I feel like the rest of the series might go off the rails given how the story ends, but I am definitely going to give it a try.

I chose this based off the recommendation of Molly Harper whose early work I found to be hilarious. While I am not yet entirely convinced that Peterman is as funny, I found this story to be pretty entertaining.

I really liked Hollie Jackson's performance. I have been listening to a lot of audiobooks from the romance package and there are few narrators who live up to the standards set by some of my favorites, but I was impressed by Hollie Jackson. She manages to breathe life into the characters and really manages to bring out the humor in the writing.

I was literally laughing out loud.

Just picture the confused side eyes I got from my pre-teen as I chuckled my way through chores. My son now thinks he may have to "give this audio book thing a chance." It was a great light listen and I throughly enjoyed it.

Fun novella

This delivered exactly what the cover promised: a fun, short story, light and fluffy - actually, I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I didn’t expect much plot, but there was that and some good action, too! Also, I was glad that once Essie found out what really happened with her ex a year ago, there wasn’t much forced drama, and instead they acted like adults. Aaand I loved the characters! Granny and Dwayne were hilarious, and Hank was actually willing to adjust his life to hers instead of having the woman change everything about her life so she’d fit into his (which is the norm in paranormal romance and urban fantasy - off the top of my head, I can only think of Curran from the Kate Daniels series that did something similar when he moved out with and for Kate - and he took his sweet time).

The narration was really good, too, can’t complain there. I loved her voice. Would definitely listen to other books read by Hollie Jackson.

So yeah, this gets a thumbs up. I would love a longer story from this author, because I prefer longer books and think Robyn Peterman could write an even more compelling and equally fun full length book. But for what it was, this was pretty awesome - there is a lot of character and world building packed into just a few hours and it seems neither too short nor too long. Perfect pacing!

funny, entertaining, and worth the credit

A small town girl with big city dreams. A funny easy read with great characters. Essie and Hank are blast together. Dwayne, Essie's BFF (a hilarious gay Vampire) and her Granny (a kickass 80 yr. old Werewolf, who's a former stripper!) You cannot get a more dysfunctional group of people together or find a group that loves each other so much.

Not Great, Not Awful

I found this book after looking for recommendations for funny paranormal novels on Goodreads. I enjoyed it and it had it's funny moments. However the story fell a little flat for me. The tension between the protagonist and her ex is over very quickly and the reason for their estrangement is some very weak tea - it doesn't earn it's place storywise and therefore their romance moves along very quickly and it's hard to invest in. The mystery the characters uncover is a little more interesting and helps sustain the novel. The narration is okay. Overall it's okay. I read it yesterday and already I'm forgetting most of it. If you're looking for some diverting entertainment to fill a couple of hours while you switch your brain off this may work for you - if you're looking for a story and characters to invest in, there are better books out there.
