Publisher's Summary

A mourning husband can’t live with his guilt….

He decides to die, not by his own hand, but in heroically helping the vulnerable.

Since the peaceful Cotswold countryside offers limited opportunities for heroism, despite the presence of some weird and dangerous inhabitants, he ventures further afield.

To his annoyance, new and unlikely friends mysteriously appear everywhere he goes, foiling his plans and sending him back to square one.

Will he succeed or will he come to terms with his grief first? Was his wife as blame free and perfect as he thought or will lurking suspicions of infidelity be proved right?

"It was ironic that having nothing left to lose except his life, his life had become interesting again."

Twisty Fun Story

Wilke Martin's dry, droll sense of humor shines bright. Tim Campbell is an excellent narrator.

Personal preference makes it a four

Really enjoyed this overall, and so glad to have the same narrator as the Hobbes series. He is brilliant!

The only reason my fours aren’t fives is that I couldn’t figure out why it was in third person when all of the perspective was from the protagonist’s point of view. I think it would have been tighter and flowed more smoothly had it been in first person.

Please someone tell Wilkie to change the narrator

I love the genre, the story - everything but the narrator. The strange pronunciation is driving me mad - the more it goes in the more I can’t bear it. I laboured through the Hobbs books kept by story alone but all I can hear is these stupid words.

Bonkers yet brilliant

Like all Wilkie Martins books, I have absolutely no idea why I love this, I can't say it's especially well written or that the plots even really make sense, the book snob in me knows it should be immediately rejected with an exasperated sigh and overly dramatic eye roll and yet here I am at the end already pining for a second installment. Sublime madcap fantasy.

A Spooky ish Cotswolds Adventure

This was a heartbreaking adventure about a man whose wife dies horribly in a tragic accident and he’s haunted by the loss of her enough to wander and walk with suicidal thoughts. He decides to try and go out with a bang by intervening into crimes and saving victims, while hoping to get killed in the process. However, he meets a short stranger who helps him, and then another small stranger too. That’s where the mysterious supernatural bits come into play, amongst growth and change for Razor himself. Quite a tidy ending for the overall plot, as usual with Wilkie Martin books. So that’s good.
