Publisher's summary

The West Indian bases are desperate: Post vessels—a vital communications link between England and the West Indies in the war against France—are mysteriously disappearing and no packets have arrived with orders in months. Were the privateers out in full force again? Had Napoleon's navy a secret new weapon? Lieutenant Lord Nicholas Ramage sets out from Jamaica to discover what treachery is threatening to throw the British navy into chaos.

another good book in the classics series

it's about expectations you have to remember these books are 50 years old or older and it's the classical plot of good versus evil and not the modern anti-hero but the hero that makes good decisions and has good values and is not as flawed as a human being is some or his flaws are not as bad as others. The gender roles are also not a reflection of modern times. if you like it old fashioned sea story taking place during the Napoleonic wars you'll enjoy this. My father turned me on to this series when I was a young man along with horn blower, some other books like last Mohicans, Captain blood and the Three musketeers.
