Story
In a tale inspired by real events, pregnant journalist Joan Harken is cautiously excited to follow her fiancé back to his Minnesota hometown. After spending a childhood on the move and chasing the screams and swirls of news-rich city life, she’s eager to settle down. Lilydale’s motto, “Come Home Forever,” couldn’t be more inviting. And yet, something is off in the picture-perfect village. The friendliness borders on intrusive. Joan can’t shake the feeling that every move she makes is being tracked. An archaic organization still seems to hold the town in thrall.

Story
One rainy night, the unthinkable happens: Dylan Moran’s car plunges off the road into a raging river, his beautiful wife drowning as he struggles to shore. In the aftermath, through his grief, Dylan experiences sudden, strange visions: wherever he goes, he’s haunted by glimpses of himself. Dylan initially chalks it up to trauma, but that changes when he runs into a psychiatrist who claims he’s her patient. She says he has been undergoing a unique hypnotherapy treatment built on the idea that with every choice, he creates an infinite number of parallel universes.

Publisher's Summary
Bestselling Polish crime by award-winning author Zygmunt Miloszewski.
All eyes are on famous prosecutor Teodor Szacki when he investigates a skeleton discovered at a construction site in the idyllic Polish city of Olsztyn. Old bones come as no shock to anyone in this part of Poland, but it turns out these remains are fresh, the flesh chemically removed.
Szacki questions the dead man's wife, only to be left with a suspicion she's hiding something. Then another victim surfaces - a violent husband, alive but maimed - giving rise to a theory: someone's targeting domestic abusers. And as new clues bring the murderer closer to those Szacki holds dear, he begins to understand the terrible rage that drives people to murder.
From acclaimed Polish crime writer Zygmunt Miloszewski comes a gritty, atmospheric pause resister that poses the question, what drives a sane man to kill?

Best Crime Thriller This Year!
Refreshingly unique, highly imaginative and highly satisfying to the very end!
I recommend this author, this novel and this narrator to be the best in the foreign category of psychological crime thrillers for this year. The translation gave the appearance of this being an American book. Bravo!

I am conflicted
are you kidding me?!? I found myself yelling at the narrator at the End of This Book. this book is an emotional, compelling, and visceral crime novel, gritty and Stark and dark. it is a departure from american crime novels, set in an idyllic Polish town miles and Worlds Away from Warsaw. Theodore, the main character, is sympathetic and believable, and at the end pitiable. I won't spoil it, but I am seriously conflicted by the end. Hence the drop of a star. also, don't love the sex and swearing, but it does fit in the gritty setting

Fabulous! my first translation of a Polish book!
Fantastic! The writing was beautiful, the sequence of events believable, yet kept you on edge!
Early in the story a lot of time was spent on each individual's way of thinking and could become somewhat tedious, however as the story evolves it truly makes the events of understandable and more meaningful!
Really loved this book and am looking for more from this author!!!!

Interesting
I do enjoy Mr Miloszewski's books. Rage being the third I have read and as intricate as the other two. Not sure how I feel about the different endings. The very end in the original Polish and the translated book have left me a bit confused. Perhaps all my questions will be answered if there is a next book

Did Not See That Coming
If you could sum up Rage in three words, what would they be?
What is next?
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot did keep me on the edge of my seat. I liked the characters and had a vested interest in their success. They were very realistic and though they were from a different culture and nation, their humanity made them easy to identify with. At one point I thought, "Oh, here we go - typical story line - and then, suddenly- it wasn't!"
Have you listened to any of Stefan Rudnicki’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
First listen - but I enjoyed him.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I would have wanted to listen in one sitting - but it isn't in me to stay awake that long!
Any additional comments?
I want more of our lead detective. How are they going to pull it off? Did they leave room to continue?

Not a very credible translation
The narrator for this audio book is wonderful, but he is reading a poor translation. There are no colloquialisms to engage us in the location. It might as well be the states. Dates are very important to the story but are not spoken in the European fashion. The storyline was fine and the character development worked well. The flawed main character is one worth championing but he is such a schlemiel. Too farcical and too unsatisfying but I will seek out the narrator for his lovely expression and richness of voice.

Great disappointment
I was really looking forward to this, but oh dear. Right from the off, I found the reader difficult to listen to because his voice is very deep and growly and when he drops it at the end of sentences it's hard to follow. The storyline is ridiculous and the end is a wet squib. Add to this the constant assessment of women's shagability, up to and including details of how they perform oral sex, which made this woman squirm, and repeated references to rape - irrelevant to the plot - which, like the details about women, are only there to sex up the plot. Nasty.
