There can be no peace as long as a single warlord remains alive…

Elliot, Her Majesty's Warlord, has been riding high. The coup against Queen Helen has been foiled, the New Model Army is readying itself for the coming war, and his lover is pregnant. But the warlords have been preparing too and now, they're on the march, ready to crush the kingdom and put the uppity commoners to the sword. Facing a war on three fronts, Elliot embarks on a desperate gamble to win the war in a single campaign… unaware the warlords have plans of their own.

The story jumped a lot, or maybe I missed something, because one moment the MC is in a place doing a thing & all of a sudden it's 6 months later.
The MC & Farra? have a trist, return home & it's suddenly 6 weeks later.
There was a bunch of reminiscing of old military times & loads of regretful comments about not having adequate artillery. And repeating how he missed his kids, which would be normal if it weren't said verbatim every time.
Oddly enough, the narration change didn't bother me at all & it usually does.
I don't know if I'd continue this series if another book comes out, but I am interested in at least checking out the beginning of the Emily story. That sounds like there might actually be some magic in it, where this series was a bit misleading with its title.

It was okay...

I loved the book and hope there is more to come, I was a little disappointed that Falin had to die

Not sure if it was the narrator or if something else has changed but the whole vibe of this book has me rethinking continuing with this series. Elliot went from a seasoned vet dealing with incredible circumstances to someone whining about what he doesn't have and how different things were and how unfair it all was.
Frankly it doesn't feel like it was written by the same author as the first two books in the series.

When did Elliot turn in to a whiny little bitch?
