Publisher's summary

An alien war looms over Earth....

And Anderson Gunn is helpless to stop it.

Messages from intergalactic allies paint a stark view of the future: War is inevitable. The future is set, but the timeframe unknown. All he can do is train, worry, and wait.

A knock on the door brings a much-needed distraction - a bounty hunting job. There’s only one problem. This client is of the offworlder variety.

Gunn’s an expert at tracking down missing humans. But missing aliens? That's a whole different ball game.

The case hurls Gunn and his friends to the brink of the impending conflict, where they stumble on an alien technology that will irrevocably alter the course of human history. War is bad enough on its own, but this? This will change everything.

The Gunn Files series continues with Quantum Flare, a first contact science fiction mystery set in the weird heart of Texas. If you've ever asked yourself what it would be like to have aliens living among us, or you're a fan of Men in Black, The X-Files, or Fringe, buy this book!

Uhhhhh

Is there going to be another book following this one? Cause if not this is one seriously lousy way to end a series. There is soooo much left open and unresolved that the series it self would be a disappointment.

Can't wait for the next book.

I found book one just playing around on audible and I'm so glad I did. I loved how book one two and three came out really fast I hope they keep on coming too.

Is it generational or cultural?

The angst riddled protagonist? He feel torn and regrets having to kill evil beings who are trying to kill him. He dwells on it. I suspect it’s both generational and cultural. What it does double the length of the book. By having the MC constantly cover and recover his angst in his self talk he takes a novella and turns it into a novel. At least by length he does. This is even taught in how to write novels by sci fi writers who publish book after book on Amazon and here on Audible. Especially the woman who writes the Retrieval Artist novels. She still takes up half of each book talking about his conflict. Same conflict through at least 9 books as that’s where I gave up.

Besides the above this is a fun series.

A good continuation

Herron has managed to keep the private investigator story with aliens from getting stale. I have had my interest in the characters maintained and will be getting bk 4 when it comes out.
I would say that this is a PI story in a sci fi setting than a sci fi story with a PI story

Gunn is gunning for the Tetrad

So, Anderson Gunn is off on another bounty hunter job and guess what? He is knee deep in the beginning of the Tetrad’s intergalactic war and earth is being pulled into the fight. With his ragtag team he goes head to head against Tanamir, the head of the Tetrad fleet. There are a lot of gun fights, sonic blasters and laser guns. Gunn and team are captured a few times and of course escape with help from unexpected sources.
Anna has her own agenda and wants the world to know about the offworlders. At any and all available opportunities she is taking pictures. She got on my last nerve with that. She does not give any consideration to what the fall out would be if humans know of offworlders.
We learn more of Vinny’s back story and meet some of his family. Detective Gonzalez is gone missing for days and I guess the police don’t mind. Nothing is ever said from her partner or captain. The peacekeepers arrive after all the hard work has been done. Gunn and Dyna have a come to Jesus meeting and things don’t go well. My mantra at that point was, “her actions saved your life. Get over it”
This is a fun, fast paced story that will keep you reading until the end.
