Getting at client issues by focusing on the process of symptom formation rather than on the details of the problem.

In Process-Oriented Hypnosis, internationally recognized psychologist Michael D. Yapko provides clinicians with a new framework for utilizing hypnosis with clients. Yapko encourages clinicians to take a broader perspective, in which patterns rather than individual symptoms are the emphasis of therapy. He offers numerous insights into ways clinicians can home in on the process of how people come to suffer various types of emotional distress. Beyond these insights, Process-Oriented Hypnosis provides highly practical information and specific examples for integrating this innovative perspective into clinical work.

The key patterns of human experience are central to the first section of the book, providing a sound conceptual foundation and a wide range of examples. In the second section, Yapko provides 10 richly structured hypnosis session transcripts for clinicians to insightfully adapt to their clients' needs.

Process-Oriented Hypnosis offers clinicians a fresh perspective for working with clients that can be integrated into many different treatment models.

I’ve listened several times over the last 18 months. At first it was intriguing and seemed powerful. Over the months more pieces fell into place until I was able to internalize a process for recognizing processes involved in cognition and decision-making and how they can go awry.

More learning every time through

I've read a lot of material on various therapy strategies: behavioral, psycho-dynamic, hypno, mindfulness, etc. This book sounds super specific: just hypnotherapy, just the process-oriented component (one of many hypnosis parts). It's not. It shows how all roads in therapy lead to one, a grand-unification theory. This is something I'd intuited through my readings, and couldn't put to words - Yapko did, and it strongly resonated. Further, it's a mega self-help book on so many personal issues we may be struggling with, from a very educated / insightful perspective of issues & healing, in a way that absolutely clobbers modern self-help books by comparison. I almost wish the book was re-titled to have more mass appeal, because this book deserves front-shelf placement of "self help" or "psychology" in any book store, given its breadth and unification. Yapko does a damn fine job of (a) teaching process-oriented therapy, for/by therapists; (b) teaching a catch-all mentality of self-improvement; (c) tackling just about every major limiting mentality most westerners are dealing with in 2021. Absolutely profound book.

Very efficient book

Lucid, nuanced, and richly contaxtualized, this book is brimming with practical applications that are simultaneously imaginative yet down to earth. The wonderful narration highlights the artistry of hypnosis in action. I just finished listening but know I'll keep coming back to this time and again.

Impressive

Convinced me to study Process-Oriented Hypnosis. I’m sick of therapy focusing only the past. Future pacing is the key.

Well worth listening to.

Not a doctor of any sort, just absolutely blown away by the practicality each chapter of this book contains. I feel like most people should read this book. Because there is something in this book anyone can find of value. <3

So much better
