Publisher's summary

The year is 2066, and the world is oblivious to the threat it faces.

The fate of humanity lies on the shoulders of Burt Radcliffe, the new head of NASA's Near Earth Object program. He's been rushing the completion of DefenseNet, a ring of satellites that are both part of an early-warning system, as well as the means to eliminate incoming threats.

Yet Burt knows that despite the world's best efforts, nothing can be done about the alert he's just received. Coming out of deep space is a danger that's been approaching since the dawn of time. A black hole. An unstoppable threat that promises death for all in its wake.

Dave Holmes was a modern-day Einstein. As the original architect of DefenseNet, he'd had visions of this Primordial Threat before he disappeared, yet he'd left behind no details on how the problem might be solved. Can Holmes be found, and if so, will his solution even work?

The world has less than a year to find out.

pure sci fi!

this book is one of the few examples of proof modern science fiction with an emphasis on science. some of the concepts this book talk about I had never heard of so I looked it up and they are all true. this book is as exciting as it is factually correct.

I tried to like this book but the science is eh

Okay so a lot of what he talks about in this book is based on pop science. But some things that make no sense get panned over even in trying to work out the logistics. Just because you're conscious of obstacles, if it's an impossible obstacle it makes a lot of the story sound absurd if you really understand the things he is talking about i.e. production of graphene, Earth going without Sun, the amount of resources it would take to produce all the tech required I would be surprised if we had enough resources globally to even make it feasible. He does a good job of including the Moon and it's importance but there are so many things about our solar system that protect us i.e. Jupiter's magnetosphere.

This book feels like the script for a made-for-tv movie. So many shameless clichés and quotes, etc. that just really made this a very mundane story. I can't even bring myself to finish the book with four hours left.

Fantastic read

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The science was interesting, I think some of the terror attackes were over done. The lead characters were well rounded people of interest. The thought of moving the Earth to a new sun is mind boggling. It's a good, fun, romp. Enjoy this book too

Atrocious British accent is difficult to listen to

The narrator's attempt at a female British accent is horrible and just as I get into the story it appears and I am instantly jolted out of the story.... repeatedly. I will read the book instead because the story is good so far.

Mediocre

This felt like an outline for a truly great novel but needed a lot more on the character development side and just plain fleshing out of the plot lines.

This is book is simply wonderful. I was entirely captivated by it throughout! I've loved all of M. A. Rothman's books, but this one grabbed me more than any of the others I've read so far

Definitely worth listening if you are interested in this subject. Is there a book two?
