Publisher's summary

"What I find in my territory is mine to keep. Even if it’s a man."

Jag. Uninhibited. Possessive. Walks on the wild side.

Dane. Gentle giant. Monster lover. Plays it safe.

Dane always knew his illicit fantasies of rough sex and dangerous men would one day lead him down a path of no return, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t stay away.

After being beaten half to death by his ex, he wakes up in a collar, chained to a wall by a wild man who claims Dane as his property.

From the moment Jag lays his eyes on Dane, he knows he wants to keep him. Big, strong, with colorful ink all over, he is the most unique man Jag had ever seen. But Dane has to be tamed if he is to become Jag’s mate for life.

All Jag needs to do is assure Dane that he will be protected and provided for, because the sparks are already flying. But Dane keeps nagging about irrelevant things like his family, responsibilities, and the internet. No wonder Jag needs to keep him chained for longer than he expected.

The only way out for Dane is to play the role of Jag’s obedient, loving "mate", and bide his time until he can escape. But while Jag is absolutely batshit, and his junkyard den lifestyle is insanity, he also showers Dane with treats, worships the ground he walks on, and f--ks him like a monster, the way Dane always dreamed of in his most secret fantasies.

Great listen!

Really enjoyed this one from KA Merikan! I adored this story and loved the main characters! I do think Wyatt Baker did a nice job but it wasn't quite the right tone...it was less dark than I think it should have been. Overall a nice job!

Different Kind of Opposites Story

I can always rely on this duo to write amazing dark and opposites stories! This one did not disappoint. Jag and Dane are perfect for each other. The title is exactly how I would describe Jag: primal. It's an interesting kink, and one I haven't read or listened to before. The narrator did an awesome job narrating. Each character had a distinct voice.

4.5 stars

The few first chapters really had me wondering “what on earth am I listening to?” as I hadn’t read Scum, book 1 of the series, but it very quickly became a surprisingly sweet yet equally hot story. Jag, who was raised in the woods by doomsday preppers with no idea how the modern world or traditional relationships works lives inside a junkyard with his friends, falls in love with Dane, a man who was “found” on his territory and therefore he felt he was well within his rights to keep. Jag sees nothing wrong with “claiming” Dane and keeping him prisoner in his den while simultaneously trying to woo him by showing he’s a worthy mate. This book definitely defies your average expectation of a romance novel and Jag’s character made it extremely interesting. The side characters were great and I will definitely be going back to listen to Scum. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this audiobook.

A 'mate' of his own

Jag is on a mission to find a 'mate' of his own. Being of limited knowledge and exposure to the workings of the world, Jag is primitive in nature and thinking.
When his search for a life partner ultimately leads him to Dane he will use all means necessary to claim him.

Dane is embroiled in a web of violence and deceit which did not end well for him. Jag is where he ended up and as he slowly warms up to him, he can't deny the draw he feels to the caveman who has kept him for himself.

The story itself is riddled with humor, passion, some violence and ends in a sweet HEA.

The narration really brings this tale to life. Mr Baker does a phenomenal job in voicing these characters and keeping you engaged in this plot.

Amazing!

This book is so different and unique that I cound´t stop reading it. I love the setting of this book and Jag was really primal and just wanted his own mate. And when he finds Dane his dream he thinks he found his true mate.

I LOVED this book and want more in this category!

I read this book and now listen to it and it got even better the second time!

Wyatt did a really good job!

Modern day Tarzan

The modern day Tarzan took me a bit to get into and was a little confusing once in a while but overall I enjoyed the story a lot. There were definitely some dark elements and it was an interesting forced proximity story. I enjoyed it and the narrator did a very good job with the different characters and the emotions. Definitely give it a few chapters to really get into the story and realize just what you’re in for. Overall very worth the listen.

A little strange but worth the listen

Overall, I liked this story, but there were a few parts I wasn’t so fond of. I’m still not sure the whole “modern day Tarzan” theme worked for me. It took a bit for me to get into Jag especially because I didn’t feel like his past was explained in a way that made sense to me. I found both men a little naïve, which worked at times, but others just made me roll my eyes. Though I did like this story it was a little weird.

On a super positive note… Wyatt Baker did an exceptionally great job. I loved the different voices. I could listen to Baker all day long.

Great Tarzan Retelling

The narration for this book is excellent! I would have loved to see more exploration of the romance in the captor/captive part of the story, and Dane was a bit bland. However, Jag was excellent. His growth, arc, compassion, and vulnerability was so addictive!
