Publisher's summary

From the New York Times bestselling coauthor of Five Feet Apart and She Gets the Girl comes a fresh and inventive sapphic romantic comedy that’s What If It’s Us meets Bridgerton.

What if you found a once-in-a-lifetime love…just not in your lifetime?

Audrey Cameron has lost her spark. But after getting dumped by her first love and waitlisted at her dream art school all in one week, she has no intention of putting her heart on the line again to get it back. So when local curmudgeon Mr. Montgomery walks into her family’s Pittsburgh convenience store saying he can help her, Audrey doesn’t know what she’s expecting…but it’s definitely not that she’ll be transported back to 1812 to become a Regency romance heroine.

Lucy Sinclair isn’t expecting to find an oddly dressed girl claiming to be from two hundred years in the future on her family’s estate. But she has to admit it’s a welcome distraction from being courted by a man her father expects her to marry—who offers a future she couldn’t be less interested in. Not that anyone has cared about what or who she’s interested in since her mother died, taking Lucy’s spark with her.

While the two girls try to understand what’s happening and how to send Audrey home, their sparks make a comeback in a most unexpected way. Because as they both try over and over to fall for their suitors and the happily-ever-afters everyone expects of them, they find instead they don’t have to try at all to fall for each other.

But can a most unexpected love story survive even more impossible circumstances?

Cute and entertaining!

It was really good and I was entertained through the whole book! Lucy was by far my favorite character. Definitely worth the read although…

Spoilers

Audrey’s character BUGGED me. She was extremely selfish and I was honestly was rolling my eyes at some of her thoughts.
Okay as soon as she found out that Lucy was being married off she should have forgotten about everything else, dropped everything and immediately started to figure out a way to help Lucy!!!! Lucy was not happy and she freaking knew it but all Audrey could think about was herself. It wasn’t until the end were she changed her way of thinking.

Also…. Audrey should not have been so butt hurt about Lucy saying that same sex relations were abhorrent. Lucy obviously did not mean it and Audrey was being too self centered to even try to communicate properly! Also Lucy was brought up in a completely different time!! Give her a freaking break, Jesus Christ.

Honestly I hope Audrey grows the hell up more after all this cause I think she doesn’t deserves Lucy.

So much fun

I've been waiting for this to come out and I loved every second! The little moments they have, the angst, the choices they make to protect the other?? Fantastic. Such a fun read, and fun to talk to other people about.

Cute

I don’t usually listen to teens’’s books, but I couldn’t resist this one. It was cute well written and well narrated. Loyal to the period it describes

Cute story

Adorable and entertaining story. I like the spin on the story, I hope to see more stories like this in the future (I am talking about our present and beyond, not 1812)

Sweet , entertaining, and endearing

This story creates a beautiful romantic and whimsical world to fall into and basque in the glow of sweet young romance. A touch of magic, pretty imagery, and queer love beautifully woven together. This was a light and fun read and the excellent performance makes you feel like you’re right there with the characters.

Im very pleased.

This book was a really enjoyable experience. it has a really good balance of lighthearted and playful comedy, romance, and just enough drama to keep things interesting but never goes full bleak. i quite enjoyed it, and the ending was exactly what I had been hoping for.

The only quibble is that I know of a particularly important historical event that also kicked off in June of 1812, involving Britain and America, which I was kinda holding my breathe for through most of the book, waiting to see if it would be addressed, but I understand that the timeframe might allow for all the events of the book to take place without the news of that particular event having reached the area of Britain the book is set in. But it was always on my mind, so fellow history buffs beware, there wont even be a reference to the War of 1812.
