The narrators are amazing in this book. The Pike children brain storm ideas to save money and make money when Mr. Pike loses his job.

A responsible big sister.

This had a good lesson about who are your real friends when times get tough. Mallory's dad gets laid off. I was annoyed that up until the end he was described as fired. Fired is when you did something wrong and there's no severance package. He was laid off because of the firm's budget and Mallory finds out at the end he was given a severance package.

So because he was describe as"fired" throughout the whole book, my criticism is that it does portray Stoneybrooke as really snobbish. The Pike kids get teased for it. That's a crummy community. Besides Mallory's friends who help out, where are the adults that would help them out? Where are the adults to tell their kids not to be snobs?

Moving on. What the book does well is show Mr. Pike's depression and aimlessness after he has put in some resumé's.

It also was great to see how the Pike kids stepped up to take on responsibilities and make sacrifices to help out. Good work ethics.

The subplot was also a good link to the main plot. The rich kids were being used for their pool and not because the other kids actually liked them. Even though the rich kids were snobs it was a good lesson in not letting people use you.

Good book

I really liked this book it’s good for kids around 10 or 12 but some characters sound a little bit to similar(in my eyes)
