Publisher's summary

Philadelphia's kingpin is a queen with a tragic past; this is her story of survival and strength from the beginning....

Just as every superhero has an origin story, so does every drug dealer who holds the title "kingpin". Before all of the hood fame, fancy cars, nice clothes, lavish homes, luxurious vacations, and loads of money, Sarita Powell had to go through the mud. She experienced the heartbreak of her mother's death when she was a little girl, pain from the abuse she endured at the hands of the very person she'd hoped would keep her safe, and confusion about the many family secrets and lies that one day would show their ugly face. It wasn't until all of these hardships were behind her that Sarita found herself in a position of power, strength, and respect. She is the woman she never imagined she could become. This is the origin of a true dope girl who took Philadelphia by storm in the period of one summer.

Good Read!!

There were a lot of twist and turns to the story line that made the story interesting and adventurous. I definitely will ready Philly Girl 2.

Not as good as I hoped

Choosing a narrator that knows how to pronounce the words of the things you're writing about is important. This narrator was consistently mispronouncing things and at one point I even heard her checking her notes before continuing. Does no one listen to each audible book at the publishing company before publishing to make sure they're showing your best work? Now, onto the actual book. It was a decent read. Unfortunately, I really didn't like most of these characters , including Serita. I was entertained by the ruthlessness of most of these characters however. It was a pretty good read. I wish the narrator had done better.

Loved It

The story was captivating and intriguing. I of course had hoped for of the characters to survive, but in the end, that’s the game.

Philly girl

I’m a Philly girl born and raise the book is okay . I didn’t feel like the character was from Philly there was no Philly slang or just places ppl who be in the streets would actually hang out . The story is just unbelievable but it has a good story line. If they want to make it like a Philly girl they need to have the characters speak like they from Philly.

Good storyline

This was a good storyline, but I’m not sure about the narrator. There wasn’t enough life in her voice for the parts. If this is her first time narrating…then she will be better. Enjoyed the read though.

Ehhh

Book was ok the plot was all over the place and didn’t really make sense. Some of the scenes felt forced and made up on the fly.
