It's 1933, and Eric Campbell, the man who would be Australia's Fuehrer, is on a fascist tour of the continent seeking allegiances. Yet the Australian way of life is not undefended.

The clandestine armies of the Establishment have mobilised to undermine Campbell's ambitions. But when the Establishment's man in Munich is killed, desperate measures are necessary. Rowland Sinclair must travel to Germany to defend Australian democracy from the relentless march of Fascism.

The stories are ingenious, and the narrative well written, and the characters idiosyncratic. However, while Clive and Milton grow stronger, Edna seems more and more vapid and cruel. I could do without her in this book as she flaunts her affairs in front of someone who loves her, and she claims to love.

An excellent series, with flaws

Our friends travel to Germany this time, as Hitler is on the rise and perhaps Australia will soon choose to follow, unless they can somehow prevent it ... I was on the edge of my seat with concern, as one dangerous situation and encounter after another befell our amateur spies. There is real death, injury and loss, which keeps the story from becoming a caricature or Hogan's Heroes-like comedy. Scary relatable in 2025.

A Very Uncomfortable Listen!

The stories are good, but Edna’s flaunting her love affairs is in front of the MC who she knows loves her is cruel. If she won’t leave, I will. This was my last purchase.

Edna needs to go away
