Nanovax was supposed to be our salvation. Death and disease, now obsolete. Until the terrorist attack. Fifteen cities in a single day. Again, they said Nanovax was the answer. The same technology meant to heal us could now be used, through an algorithm, to track us, to predict human behaviors...I'm Lieutenant Brian Goff. I received the first injection. Mankind has lorded over the land of Illian for a thousand years, building on the ruins left by the elves, as if it were their birthright. A thousand years is a long time for an immortal race to see the truth of things, a truth that has remained unsaid for a millennium - elves are superior. They are faster, stronger, and connected to the magical realm in a way that man could never grasp. Illian should belong to them.

This peace, however, is threatened when the young protege, Ayres, defies the order and assumes the forbidden white robes. When a break-away sect within the black order begins to gain power, marking themselves with an ancient anti-magi symbol, Ayres and his childhood companions take it upon themselves to uncover the true meaning behind the movement. Cool YA Fairy Tale
I was immediately captivated by this legendary tale about Spirit Warrior.
Engaging story, and the narration was well done and really gave the story life.
I was drawn into their world and had to keep remembering I was in traffic on my way home :)
I'd be interested in more from both author and narrator, very nicely done and I'd recommend it to friends & family :)

This was a nice drive time listen
While, I thought the story left a little to be desired (too many time I thought, "why didn't the Spirit Warrior just...."), it was overall enjoyable, and I would listen to books from this author again. Also, the story was being told around the camp fire, but there was a large section in the middle, where I think the author forgot that, then towards the end, began interacting with the audience again. That part came off a little awkward.
Ms. Alder did a fine job on the narration. She was very easy to listen to, and played the parts well.

Good story with some great storytelling.
I listened to this fairly quickly. It grabbed me from the first paragraph. It starts with an interesting premise and really expands on it nicely, with a series of twists and turns that keep the listener interested. The characters are well written, with realistic motivations. It had solid worldbuilding, and the plot is fast paced, leading to a breathtaking final act. Highly recommend this audiobook.

Enjoyable and Entertaining
This is an interesting and entertaining folktale aimed at YA audiences. That said, as a "mature" reader, I think it can be enjoyed by all audiences. Parental guidance is suggested for young audiences as there are scenes involving death and violence, but there is no graphic violence. The tale tells of the annual retelling of the story of "Spirit Warrior," who was killed as a boy, then resurrected to wreak vengeance on a mad and wicked king. But Spirit Warrior finds a higher calling in the non-violent protection of his people. He experiences love, and has to decide whether he will kill the king or follow his own path to justice. The fight scenes were a little confusing to me sometimes, but overall the story was enjoyable and easy to listen to.
The narration was good and well-paced.

Pretty good legend
This book read /sounded like a legend passed down from generation to generation. I liked that. The story was good, and had all the fantastic elements you could want. There was intrigue, deception, and betrayal. It was a little slow in parts, but overall, I enjoyed it. I liked the narrator less than the story, but she was fine. 3.5 stars
