Publisher's Summary

My family's past threatens my future.

It's my second year training to become a Sentry of the South at Spellslingers Academy of Magic and I'm still fighting a reputation I don't deserve. It was my grandmother's addiction to magic that tarnished our family name - a grandmother I still love and adore. When she asks a favor of me, I can't refuse her dying wish...and it sets off a chain of events I never expected. With the help of a charming and sexy druid, I set out to locate a missing professor, but what we discover is far worse than we ever imagined.

A fight to restore my family's honor has become a fight for my life and the lives of everyone I hold dear. Will we be able to find the professor in time and preserve life in the quadrant as we know it?

Don't miss the first trilogy in the Spellslingers Academy of Magic series, Warden of the West!

Love it, but with mixing feelings

I’m really looking forward to the romance in this serie. But I have so many mixing feelings regarding the ways the giants it’s described. Don’t get me wrong, I love the elements of fantasy and magic in this books. But when the narrative seems to be described a real life situation and it’s not careful about how it’s projected, leave a bad mixing feelings about it.

The fantasy of a teenage girl

Reads like a teenage girls fantasy life with magic. Quite eye rolls aplenty and that certain predictable quality, where the reader is suspending disbelief fpr the author who puts a character in an impossible situation, only to have them be so awesome as to fairly effortlessly escape with a heretofore unknown power or whatever... there's just no real struggle fpr the protagonist, ever...

2nd series to Spellslingers Academy of Magic

I read this series in the wrong order but it was still interesting. IMO I prefered "Sentry of the South" series more than "Spellslingers Academy of Magic" but it's just my preference. They are both fantastically written and full of action, murder and paranormal mystery. The one thing that really gets under my skin is - none of the books provide a Heroines name in their description so it's hard to remember who you're writing about. In this series the heroines' name is Dani -

Dani is living in her beloved grandmothers shadow at Spellslingers Academy of Magic and working extremely hard to not only become the Sentry of the South but create a new legacy for her and her family. Her much loved grandmother's addiction to magic tarnished the family name. (While I understand the thought behind this, I struggle with the depravity written into the story her grandmother did. IMO her parents were far worse people)

Not wanting to refuse her grandmothers dying wish for an elixir (to which I still don't understand because she's dying.) .sets off a chain of events that lands Dani in hot water. Dani befriends sexy Druid on the fringes of society and together work to find the missing Professor from the Academy.

Another great story by Annabell Chase

Just as all of the other books in the series I loved it. Narrator was clear and expressive.
Love audible and Annabell Chase's work.

Saskia Maarleveld is a Awesome Narrator

This is a good friendship, better judgements, save the day story that has the miscreants of the paranormal banded together. The narrator Saskia Maarleveld is one of my favorites. She has the most soothing, melodic voice that just pulls the listener in. Off to book 2 in series

very entertaining

Annabel Chase nailed this. I enjoy reading young adult, and it's hard at times to find topics and stories that interest me. I hope that she continues to 'bring it'. Saskia Maarleveld does a pretty good job on the voices too. Though a few times, I got confused as to who was speaking. It's worth getting the book.

Outlier was enjoyable

Outlier was enjoyable. The storyline held my interest. Character development could have been more indepth in areas but visualization was easy. I look forward to the next in this collection.

It is ok, but nowhere near the warden of the West

I found it easy to get into the story, but as the story progressed I got more and more annoyed by Dani. The level of cockiness of her especially and Peter also (although he improved as the story progressed) was a bit too much for me.
As always Annabel Chase is great writer and spins a good story. I will not read the next in this series though as it is not for me with this character.
I did finish the book though, hence 3 stars and Saskia Maarleveld was as always the best narrator.

Disappointed

I think I prefer Dani as a side character, and Peter is everything is a smug, prideful arrogant pervert and extremely unlikable, so disappointed in what I was starting to think would be a good series, I am actually unsure whether I want to read anymore
