“Captures the richness and complication of female friendships in a way few writers have done. . . incredibly rich characterizations and a profound sense of place.” — Cosmopolitan

In her magnificent classic Outer Banks, acclaimed New York Times bestselling author Anne Rivers Siddons brilliantly recalls a lost time of hope and dreams—of comradeship, love, secrets, and betrayal—and creates characters brimming with life who will live in the heart forever.

In the uncertain ‘60s, four young women came together as sorority sisters on a Southern campus: elegant Kate; sensitive, sensible Cecie; sexy, vibrant and richer-than-sin Ginger; and poor, hopeless, brilliant Fig. At Nag’s Head, North Carolina, over the course of two idyllic spring breaks, their bonds of friendship were strengthened into something rare and powerfully binding. Now, thirty years later, they are returning to the isolated strip of barrier islands, hoping to recapture what has been lost—the love, the enthusiasm, the passion—and to finally understand what pulled them apart and cast them adrift.

I read the book many years ago and loved it so reread one Audible and loved it even more, in part due to the outstanding narration.
The characters are quirky and memorable. The closeness of girlfriends in college as they mature is described so well and is relatable.
I’ve read nearly all of Anne Rivers Siddons book and this is in the top three, behind Colony and Faultlines.

I started to love Anne Rivers Siddons after listening to Fault Lines (also a great listen). I enjoyed Outer Banks immensely. It made me laugh and cry. Love the plot twist at the end.

Great listen!

This was overall a good book. I got aggravated with the lengthy details about sorority girls, their lives, the silliness, etc. but once I got past some of that and I could see a plot forming, I enjoyed it. It’s worth the read.

Overall good book… I got frustrated with the heavy details…

Would you try another book from Anne Rivers Siddons and/or C. J. Critt?

Maybe - I've read others and like them.

What other book might you compare Outer Banks to and why?

Don't know

What about C. J. Critt’s performance did you like?

I read Siddons

Do you think Outer Banks needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No

Any additional comments?

I've never read a book with "cry" "cried" "weep" "wept" so much in one book. The main character, a woman, cries constantly - when she's happy, when she's sad (a lot), when she's depressed (a lot). I kept reading to the end, hoping it would get more uplifting. Didn't. I've always liked Anne Rivers Siddons, but this one.....I don't know.

Rather Depressing Tho Good Storyline

Can you ever go back? Back to the Glory Days-Siddons explores this question with such poignancy that my heart aches for my own college days! Loved the performance, too. Couldn’t wait to listen & am sad that I’ve finished such a well written story!

Nostalgia, friendship and a plot twist
