Publisher's Summary

Michelle Baron should be reveling in her new life in Sandy Cove, Oregon. From the outside it all looks idyllic. A newlywed settling into a quaint coastal town, her husband establishing himself as a junior partner in a law firm - what more could she want?

But a series of disturbing nightmares haunts Michelle. Her quest to understand these dreams leads her to the New World bookstore, where she begins a spiritual journey that will challenge her Christian heritage as well as her marriage.

Captivating characters, suspenseful story lines, and thought-provoking themes - best-selling author, Rosemary Hines crafts gripping and at times poignant tales of the challenges Christians face in contemporary culture. Known for her realistic portrayal of life and her sensitivity in tackling tough topics, her novels examine the prevalence of New Age beliefs and practices in today's world, the tragedy of suicide that touches families of all walks of life, the broken system of foster care, the need for dedicated teachers to reach out to troubled students, and the heartache of infertility as well as unwanted pregnancies and abortions. Never preachy but always leading the listener to a message of hope and redemption, Rosemary is a committed follower of Christ. The novels of the Sandy Cove series - Out of a Dream, Through the Tears, and Into Magnolia - convey profound Christian messages that touch hearts of believers and nonbelievers alike. Refreshingly honest and true to life, the characters resonate with readers and become their friends, and the story lines transition seamlessly from one novel to the next.

Great Christian fiction with a very real message!

What did you love best about Out of a Dream?

Though it is a fictional story, the message of hope and deliverance are very real! Rosemary does a wonderful job of creating real life characters and situations, and developing them into a believable, engrossing story. For anyone looking for answers to questions about "new age" philosophies, this is an excellent resource to read and/or pass on.
I have read all the books so far in this series and was so delighted to be able to listen to the audio version. The reader did a great job!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Out of a Dream?

When Michelle finds the truth that she has been searching for for most of her life.

Have you listened to any of Becky Doughty’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but this one was excellent!

If you could take any character from Out of a Dream out to dinner, who would it be and why?

It would be Michelle's grandfather...I would love to hear him tell this story from his "bbehind the scenes" view of prayers, hearing God's voice and seeing the answers come.

An emotion and spiritual roller coaster.

Would you consider the audio edition of Out of a Dream to be better than the print version?

Initially I didn't like the narrator's style of reading, but as I got engrossed in the storyline I noticed that she ceased to grate on me. Listening to this story was quite a different experience to physically reading the book (I had read this book quite a while before I listened to it). I found that I engaged better with the characters and emotions of the story. I found the story to be quite an emotional and spiritual roller coaster and I felt quite anxious with Michelle's meddling in New Age practices.

What did you like best about this story?

The story: This was a rather intriguing story where people eventually came to faith but via a range of detours along the way. This would be a good book to read by someone who is concerned about the choices people in their family are making with regards to their spirituality. Yoga, New Age, Tarot cards...all these avenues are explored by the seeker who is looking for spiritual fulfilment...but none of them really fill the void. Out of a Dream shows the power of persistent prayer by the grandparents and a peace which draws the others to them in a crisis situation. God is at work.

Any additional comments?

I received the audio book in exchange for an honest review.

I would recommend this book as a good book to read by someone who is concerned about the choices people in their family are making with regards to their spirituality.

Ends too abruptly

Good concept for this book as New Age thinking is so prevalent. The author does reveal that she has first hand knowledge of the allure of this movement. Unfortunately, this book ends very abruptly leaving a lot of loose ends. As it turns out the story continues in the next book. This narrator is okay, but reads like her audience is kindergarteners.

Michelle's story captivates listeners.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes.
Out of a Dream grabbed my attention right away. I thought it was excellently written, captivating the audience as you listened to Michelle’s journey. Rosemary Hines has a way of making her characters real to you. I found myself wishing I could sit down and have a heart to heart conversation with Michelle, at times forgetting she was a fictional character.

What did you like best about this story?

Michelle very innocently begins a quest to make some new friends after relocating with her husband to Oregon. A local yoga class seems to be just the answer when Monica befriends her. Relaxation and friendships soon lead Michelle deeper into New Age practices. Searching for an answer to her horrifying dreams, Michelle finds herself looking for answers in all the wrong places. Can a husband on a spiritual journey of his own, praying grandparents, and a crisis in her family bring Michelle back to a place of contentment? Or will tarots, dreams, interpretations, and meditations lead her farther into a New Age lifestyle?

Any additional comments?

Emotion, romance, suspense and solid biblical principles all molded together to keep me engaged as the narrator revealed the story.

I'll be listening again

What did you love best about Out of a Dream?

I love how Hines understands what she is talking about. She has experimented with some of the New Age ideology and she has found that only Jesus can lead people to God and free us from bondage.

What did you like best about this story?

Rosemary Hines’ audio book Out of a Dream is a beautiful story of a woman’s (Michelle Baron) journey to make meaning of disturbing dreams. Hines description of complex characters comes to life in this thought provoking book. Newlywed Michelle just moved to a new state, leaving behind her family and friends. After having several scary dreams about the people she loves she seeks out their meaning through the New Age movement. Her search for meaning makes her aware of spiritual things. Through a family crisis Michelle is led to the truth. Only God is the solution.

Which character – as performed by Becky Doughty – was your favorite?

Narrator Becky Doughty does a wonderful job of narrating for each character. I love how she is able to easily read both male and female characters quotes.

Who was the most memorable character of Out of a Dream and why?

Grandpa is a wonderful example of a Godly man. He gives his daughter and granddaughter sound biblical advice during hard times.

Any additional comments?

This audio book comes to life as Becky Doughty reads Out of a Dream. It is perfect for a busy mom who does not always find the time to sit down and read a book. It is great for anyone who has a hard time sitting long enough to read a book. I will be listening to this audio book again.

Becky Doughty brings a humanity to this book that makes one continue to listen with anticipation to find out what happens next.

Absolutely awesome

I was brought up Christian, and never been tempted to stray but I know so so many people who are sliding down that new age path unaware of the consequences. May God bless you for all future stories and in your life
