a good first book
two good and a bad review
first the 2 good
interesting setting and a solid open to the world built. looking forward to see how it evolves
solid psychological understanding of the protector mindset
And the not so good (and a possible fix)
it gets frustrating when the protagonist magically gets Jhon Woo levels of compatant and capable effectively overnight and becomes a uber asset for no other reason than to further the story
I would recommend to the author to spend time talking with folks in the profession of violance. Example of a initial catch point I had (first of many) was the effective non reaction of the rest of her world when the police station got detonated. That >should< have had every 3 letter agency in the nation flooding in with a fine tooth comb but appeared NOT to
all in all a fun read but frustrating in places. Getting the rest as I'm looking forward to how the story runs

Good story but needs a different narrator.
I have the hardcopy and it reads like a screenplay. Reyes created a faithful diorama of NYC and then torched it showing the hidden city of a secret order and the city within a city. A year later I was still mapping locations in the story against places IRL. I know the story is considered YA because the heroine is a teen but themes and character reactions are believable for college students and even adults. I could easily see Gina OR Michelle Rodriguez as the lead if this were to become a franchise or series. In style and tone, this would be a nice replacement for PLL on Freeform.
Jasper is a New Yorker in high school when we meet her and this story is a first person narrative so someone who sounds like Brenda Strong was a distraction for me. This narrator gets better as the story progresses but I still had to play it at 1.3x speed for the delivery to begin to match the action and as the action picked up and acting improved, slow it back down to (eventually) 1.15x speed.

Interesting!!
Order of Vespers by Matilda Reyes and narrated by Monica Jaye is the first in this series.
As I was given this book for an honest review, I am going to be very honest in the fact that I listened to both the first and second book before I wrote this review. The story was amazing and I loved this idea of storyline. HOWEVER, I had to absolutely fight with the narration. I would say 75% of the time I didn't know which character was speaking and the accents were terrible. This is however my opinion. I can say though if you can get through this book and onto the next one, you will enjoy it even more. I really loved the story. I will give this warning for people who may have triggers with violent death of parents or siblings. It was moving for me and I don't have those triggers. Make sure if you are emotional to start with a box of tissues because I did cry through several parts.

Order of Vespers
This book was so much fun! It kept my attention the entire time though there were a few times what was going on got a little confusing but this didn't detract from the book either. It was amazing! I loved the book so much! I did not want to put it down for even a moment. It was hard to push pause or anything else. This was a very fun and dark paranormal story that I enjoyed listening to. The narrator did an amazing job and the characters were so intriguing. I am very excited to get to start the next book!

Keeps your interest
Jasper is an interesting heroine. She has supernatural abilities and a "split personality". Jasper is taken in by the Order of Vespers which is a society of people with supernatural abilities. They are unsure if she can be trusted or will be their savior. The Order is at "war" with a group of people who want to kill them off. Will be listening to the next story to find out what ultimately happens to Jasper and her friends.

Entertaining Book By An Author To Keep An Eye On.
"Order Of Vespers" is, among other things, a kind of dark coming of age tale for Jasper Andrews. All her life, Jasper has been warned by her parents to keep her powers in check so that they won't be noticed by normal people and even more importantly, those that would seek to kill them simply for fear of what she and her family are capable of doing. Jasper, who grew up listening to these warnings, always felt her family's tales of bogey men were just their way of trying to get her to double down on getting her power under control. A power that Jasper has never been able to get a good handle on. A power to blow things up. Jasper's lack of control had been the cause of endless concern for her parents and siblings. So when the day finally came that Jasper had an explosive incident at school, Jasper's parents decided they had no choice but to send her away for her own safety and the safety of the rest of the family. Before any of this could happen, Jasper's family is murdered, leaving Jasper on the run and wanting revenge, Jasper finds herself being chased by both police and superhuman killers with very little in the way of options. And that is just the beginning of "Order Of Vespers." If that isn't enough to draw you in, then I don't know what to tell you. This story just isn't for you.
Now I didn't find "Order Of Vespers" a perfect story, but I definitely enjoyed it for what it offered. Author, Matilda Reyes populates her book with a decent number of interesting and sometimes complex characters. If this becomes a series of books, (which seems to be the intent, as book 2 is available), I can see the potential for growth in the main character. Also, narrator, Monica Jaye does a good job of bringing the story to life. I really enjoyed her voice. I don't know why she didn't narrate book 2. I just hope the new person does at least as well. Finally, this free, review copy audiobook was given to me at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Good
The story was good but hard to get into. The narrator did not properly portray the proper emotions throughout the book. This made the character come off as whiney, careless and annoying. I feel if the narrator would have done a better job for the emotions and each character voice then this book would have been so much better. I feel the story is well written and the characters would have been likable if narration was different. (I received this audible book as an arc and am leaving a voluntary honest review)

Interesting story line and heroes. A story with a difference. I enjoyed this story and look forward to the next book in the series.
Although it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, the story leaves you wondering what happens from here.
I can’t remember any corse language in it. No sex scenes. There is violence in it.
Narrated by: Monica Jaye she dose a great job with all characters having their own unique voice.

Good start to a series
I received a free audio copy of this book. I had no idea what to expect but I found the book pretty good. I feel like it started out really well and caught my interest from the start Bieber part way through it seemed to move too quickly and I was lost at some points—maybe I was not listening close enough though. Spoiler-I feel like the main character ‘got over’ her parents death a bit too abruptly for me. Not sure of the time line either—how much time passed from beginning to end?
